What rocker/glider did you choose?

So I am having a very hard time choosing a glider.  The ones instore at Buy Buy Baby or Babies'r'us are so expensive!  I would much prefer to see one and try it out before ordering.

I've been getting a lot of my purchasing ideas from Baby Bargains, and while they give a little idea on how to save money, the chairs they highly recommend are in the 600-800 range.  That just seems completely ridiculous!

Could you all share links to the chair you bought?  Or, for second+ time moms, do you have a to-die-for chair you can't live without?  HELP!

Re: What rocker/glider did you choose?

  • I will be watching this with interest.  I agree that all of the chairs that we've seen seem very pricey.  We are also having a hard time finding one that DH and I are both comfortable in.  He has an overstuffed swivel Lazy Boy recliner in our bedroom that he loves and I hate.  Our room is right next door to the nursery.  I keep telling him he has his comfy chair, now I need mine! lol

  • Our Walmart had one that was like $150 including the ottoman.  I think we may just get that and see if we use it.  I really don't see us using it much.

  • I am sold on this particular model, but I am still deciding between the two colors:

Enchanted - Embassy Glider, Espresso With Eggshell PipingEnchanted - Embassy Glider, Plush Chocolate

I feel like the second one will transition better to another room, when we want to take it out of the nursery, but I love how whimsical the first one is.

It's from Walmart, but is manufactured by Little Castle Furniture (which is a much more spending brand): https://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find&ta=1&search_query=enchanted%20embassy

i got a dutalier brand glider & matching ottoman from BRU. If you watch the coupon circular, eventually itll have a good coupon for this although I cant remember what it was. The downside was you had to order their stock colors/fabrics which I would've preferred to pick another color/fabric, but I just went with a neutral tan for the sake of saving money and using the coupon.

With that being said, I have spent more hours in that glider than anywhere else -- more in that glider than in my bed the first few weeks after the baby was born. Get one that swivels, rocks/glides, RECLINES and has a nursing stool pullout in the ottoman if you plan to BF -- you will not regret it the amount of money you spend, trust me.

So you felt that the reclining feature was one of the most important?  DH and I were having this discussion.  He felt that it was and I wasn't so sure.  It's good to hear from someone who has experience.

  • I have seen quite a few rocker/gliders and ottomans on craiglist in my area with removable pads- so I am considering purchasing one and just rplacing the fabric parts and sanitizing.  Some of them are being sold for $50-80...

  • I bought a Storkcraft one from walmart, it came with my nursery bundle (crib, glider and ottoman and changing table for $399)

  • I love the upholstered, airmchair style gliders but worry that our space may look overtaken by chair.

  • We are getting this one from BRU:

It's $299 and that includes the ottoman.

  • We ordered an on-sale Dutalier glider/ottoman set from a local USA Baby shop with an additional 20% off coupon. You might try looking outside the typical BRU/Walmart type places for a better deal on a good quality glider if you think you'll use it in your home. After sitting in the Dutalier (and not wanting to get up again, ever!), I decided I would claim it as a reading chair when we're not using for baby anymore!

absolutely! i had to sleep in that chair the entire night with LO on my chest a few nights when she was first born. I was soo thankful I got one that reclined!

I bought a fully upholstered dutailier glider used for $25 (steal of the century) when I was pg with DD. It's an awesome chair, but I really, really want a new slipcover for it and can't find one :(

  • I don't really like the traditional style gliders that they have at BRU, etc. We just got a reclining style rocker for DD and it's worked great so far. I think reclining is very important.
  • The Delta Eclipse glider from Target. $199.99, includes ottoman.

This glider was the only one that I found to truly be comfortable. It passed the 'sleep chair' test according to my husband.

  • I very very stupidly got my mind set on a glider/ recliner from Lazboy and well....umm...thought it was going to be 550, which didn't seem awful, since it will just be used in our living room once we don't need it in the nursery. BUT....then after we picked it all out we out it was going to be Nearly TWICE that amount....and umm... I'm really embarrased to say I couldn't say no.  My in laws had been willing to pay $500 to get us the original glider...so they paid that and we paid the other part.  Completely ridiculous....and nobody in my real life will know how much I paid for this damn glider/ recliner!! (as a matter of fact my in laws just think they paid for the entire glider, they don't realize it was only 1/2...and they will not be finding out!)  Oops........Embarrassed

  • I didn't love our glider the first time. We're buying a rocker recliner. We'll put it in the rec room some day when we're done with it but a few of my friends had them and it was so much easier to nurse and sleep in the recliner.

Thanks yo!  I kept telling him that I was in there to feed the baby and that I didn't want to fall asleep by reclining during a feeding.  I didn't even stop to think about the fact that I might have to be in there rocking and reclining for other reasons!  Ugh...I guess this means I need to admit to DH that he was right?!?  Stick out tongue
