would you take your kid out if they had a fever?

my son got his shots last week adn they told me it would take 7 days before a fever would produce.  sure enough, he woke up today with a fever.  (don't know the temp since he won't let me near him with a thermometer).  I gave him some infant advil but wanted to get him some fresh air and take him to the store or something today to shorten the day up a little.

but something tells me to let him stay in.  he's a little clingier and ornery than usual but that's it.

would you take your little one out if they had a fever?

  • I would take him out, but I would wait until after a meal and a nap.  My ds is recovering from a double ear infection, and even though he wasn't feeling too great on Sunday, I took him to Target with me.  It actually wasn't too bad, and I think he liked getting out of the house.

  • I'd listen to your instincts. If he is really clingy, I wouldn't. I would pop in a movie and see if you can get him to cuddle. But I love cuddling and would prefer that over shopping any day of the week :)

    this! hope he feels better!

  • Based on what you described, yes- I would take him out.
  • Fresh air will do him good. I've taken DS out with a fever before...he usually feels better after getting out of the house.

  • For a fever like that, yes.  I'd make sure it was after nap, and probably just make a Target run or grocery store stop.  DS loves riding in the carts and we both would get a break.

  • I think a shot-induced fever is different than a virus-induced fever, so I think it would be fine to bring him out. If he's acting clingy and ornery, though, I'd probably skip the shopping and stick with the fresh air.

  • I'd take him out after he was fed/had napped and if he was doing ok. And we weren't going to be around any kiddo's

  • We recently had a fever illness for 8 days, and all we did was go out. DS was miserable at home and just wanted to get in the car, so that's what we did. We stopped randomly for 2 items at the grocery store or one thing at the pharmacy, etc. When we were home he would just point me around the house crying, and then still not be happy as I tried to figure out WTF he wanted. If he's clingy but not wanting to be in bed then I would get out!

  • I'd take him out with a fever from shots if he seemed to be feeling okay.  However, I'd never take him out with a fever when he was sick, unless completely necessary.
