We have a Bjorn carrier, and it does NOT work for me to carry DS on my back in it. It's hard to get on and off with him, my boobs go this way and that, and the "X" across my chest rides up and chokes me and gives me a rash on my neck.
What's the best way to carry a toddler on your back? I am large breasted, and prone to shoulder & neck pains, so I need to take those into consideration.
(I currently own a Moby, too, but I haven't used it in a long time, since DS hated it as a younger infant and preferred the Bjorn. Would the Moby be the easiest on my back and boobs?)
TIA!
Re: Best way to carry a toddler on your back?
My understanding is that Mobys aren't great for heavier babies, or for back carries. A better choice would be a woven wrap. I have caried my 30# 20 month old on my back for two hours in our woven. It is great.
It can be a little overwhelming to start learning about wovens, figure out which one to get, and figure out how to use them. There are a few ladies here who will chime in soon, I'm sure. I highly recommend watching videos and then just jumping in. Find a woven that you think is beautiful and try to buy it used.
Oh-I am pretty large breasted and have a lot of neck and back pain, too. I can only hold DD while standing for a minute or two, but can wear her for a long time in a wrap.

The moby is not meant for back carries, it is stretchy and also should not be used for heaver babies. But you could use a woven wrap, which is a non strechy version of a moby basically. They are great because if you wrap correctly you can find a carry that works for you and does not give you back pain or pressure points. But it takes prcatice.
Another good option is a ssc. I have a robins nest I love for back carries, but they are discontinued, but you could get lucky and find it used on the FSOT on thebabywearer.com. But you do have other options for ssc that I'm sure someone with more experience on SSC could share on here! They are similar to the bjorn but hold baby/toddler in an ergonomically correct position (the bjorn does what we refer to as "crotch dangling" which you want to avoid for the sake of your comfort and the baby/toddlers comfort and spine ) and I know a lot of pepole who could not wear the bjorn due to back problems had betterluck with another SSC.And some have padded staps that just stay put better
A mai-tai would be another great option, it is liuke the love child of the wrap a nd a SSC
Personally I would choose a woven wrap if I could only have one.
Ncbelle has TONS of info in her siggy!
Definitely can't use a moby for a back carry. If you want something with buckles, the Boba or BabyHawk OhSnap are good choices for toddlers that are easy to find.
I have other info on options in my siggy link ;-)

Actually a Boba would be better for a toddler than an Ergo. If you like the ease of something you can buckle on & off, go with an SSC. Bobas are fairly inexpensive. I've heard great things about the Oh Snap by Babyhawk too.
Here's a link for you - she carries all of the above & I love her store:

Thanks, everyone!
Do the Boba or Baby Hawk OhSnap have the "X" that would go across my chest? Or does it wrap around the waist and then have shoulder straps similar to a backpack? I only ask because my boobs cannot handle an X.
Has anyone made their own woven wraps?
No X.
