2nd Trimester

Ladies who are 25/26 weeks

I understand everyone is different, and everyone will be a different size. But I have a question. I will be almost 26 weeks when I will be in my friends wedding this summer. I will be needing to order a dress soon, but I don't even know where to start. I don't have the slightest idea of what size I will be. So I am just wondering how big around you measure at or during you 25/26th week. Thank you for the advice! It would be awesome to just have a general idea. :]

  • I don't know my exact measurements but I am in all maternity clothes, regular clothes are defnitely not an option anymore. I have only gained 8lbs (because of horrible morning sickness)and my stomach definitely sticks out further than my boobs. If you're looking for a dress try asking the store if they have one of those fake bellies you can wear. Also, you will defnitley need sometime roomy in the stomach area and then you'll probably have to get it altered right before the wedding.

  • With my first pregnancy I was 27 weeks when I was in my friend's wedding. I had a dress that was about 2-3 sizes bigger than my normal size. That being said, I ended up having to have a seamstress pretty much make me a maternity dress with extra fabric from the wrap that came with the dress. So I would suggest either ordering a maternity dress in the same style or getting plenty of extra fabric! Hope this helps!

  • Check and see if they have maternity dresses for the wedding (which will give you some space in the belly and can be altered and sometimes ordered later).

I am 25 weeks 4days now and I recently purchased a regular (non-maternity) long dress for a black tie event.  I have gained about 15 lbs. (only 3 lbs. in 1st trimester) and almost all of the weight has been in my boobs and belly.  For comparison purposes, I was a size 2 (sometimes 4 and sometimes 0) before I was pregnant and was a 34B.  I am now a size 10!! and this is completely due to my chest--I am a size 36D... my boobs grew to this size by the end of the first trimester and have grown only slightly since. The dress I bought was size 10 with an empire fit and looks great, but I was shocked to see that I had gone up 4 or so dress sizes.   I thought I would fit in a lot of my dresses/tops that had empire waist/loose waist areas, but because of my boobs, I don't fit in them right now...

I will be posting pics of my belly on my blog soon and you can see what it looks like at 25 weeks... (I'm a FTM).

In terms of regular clothing, I am too small for some of the Old Navy maternity tops right now, but I am too big for regular shirts unless they have extra room.  T-shirts that I used to wear that were slightly lose (size small) are now tight against my belly.  The stretchy destination maternity t-shirts fit well.

  • Thank you all!! :]

  • If you ask my MIL, huge, big, massive, cow-like.  I'm in all maternity clothes now at 25 weeks tomorrow. But, everyone is different so it's hard to say!

  • I can really only wear maternity clothes now. The belly pics in my signature were taken last week when I was at 25 weeks. The good news on timing for you is that people are constantly saying how this is the cute belly stage where you're big enough to show and look pregnant, but not huge. Also, I find that dresses are THE MOST comfortable thing as I get bigger, so hopefully your dress will be comfortable! : )

  • I was in a wedding a couple weeks ago and only had to have the chest altered, they had to use fabric from the bow.  I'm going to try and post a pic of the dress, but it was empire and non fitted through the body.  I don't know what size I was pre-pregnancy because I had just lost 20 pounds before I got pregnant and hadn't bought anything new.  Then I lost more from morning sickness so my belly is big but I haven't really gained anywhere else.  If your bride isn't picky I would find the color in a style that is flowy and empire.  I would buy it bigger because it's so much easier to make is smaller, instead of bigger like I had to do.

I am thinking something with an empire waste would be best. We are picking whatever style dress we want, just in the color 'canary yellow' from David's Bridal. Which I am not thrilled about haha. But whatev, its her day, right? Lmao. Thank you ladies, again, love all the advice :]

  • Do they happen to have maternity dresses?  If not, I would go with an empire waist with plenty of gathers in the fabric (gathers on a non-pregnant belly = extra room in the fabric for a pregnant belly).  Also, make sure it has a long enough length so that you have the option of hemming the back.  One of the things you will notice about maternity dresses is that the back is shorter than the front.  This is to accommodate your belly lifting up the fabric in the front, making the hemline more uniformed.  When it comes time for fitting, your belly might make the hemline of the dress higher in the front, so if you make sure it is long enough, the seamstress can hem the back to match the front.  I hope that makes sense.  I would talk to one of the seamstresses on staff and see what they think.  I am sure they have this problem happen a lot and will know what advice to give in picking out a dress.  Good luck!

  • I'll be 27 weeks tomorrow and I'm still in my pre-pregnancy jeans. I did buy some maternity shirts since they are longer. I've gain 13lbs and I'm all belly and carrying high.

  • Like other's, I'm also all belly and boobs.  I haven't gained much weight anywhere else besides those areas.  I went from a 36B to a 38DD.  I still fit in some of my non maternity shirts but not many.  The biggest issue I would say is the ribcage.  It expands to allow for some more space.  Because of this you'll be bigger around than normal.  Definitely look for a maternity dress if possible.  If not order atleast 3 sizes bigger than you would normally wear and get extra fabric.  I stood in a wedding last summer and the MOH was prego.  She ordered 3 sizes bigger and still needed the extra fabric from my dress (I'm tall and had to order a long to make sure it hit where the bride wanted it).
