Question from 9-12 regarding height

DS was a pretty good size baby, 8 lbs. 8 oz., 20.5 inches.  Since then, he has slowly been declining in height percentile, only 25th.

Should I be concerned that his height percentile has dropped from 75th to 25th?

Did anyones LO have a growth spurt?

I'm 5'3", husband is 6'4".

Re: Question from 9-12 regarding height

  • dd was 8lbs 7oz and 21 1/4 inches at birth.

She is now almost 2 years later in the 90 percentile.  She is 35 1/2 inches long.

That is also a big difference in height with you and your husband.  both my dh and I are tall.  What did your pedi say?

  • You can't really tell anything about height at this age.  LO was 20 inches when he was born, 19 inches at his first appointment, lol.  Anyway, he's only 31 inches now, 50%.  I'm 5'6, but H is only 5'7.  LO could very well be 6ft since I'm shorter than both of my parents.  H is adopted.

Nope.  It's when the weight percentiles drop but the height percentiles don't that your pedi might be concerned.  Height is pretty much irrelevant to health (outside of obvious severe situations like dwarfism, extreme thyroid problems, etc).

    This.

  • Mine was opposite. He was born into the 99% for weight and 50th for height. He is now in the 50th for weight and the 80th for height. Kiddos change a lot that first year! If your pedi is not concerned then you probably shouldn't be either Smile
  • My DS did the same thing.  Born in the 75% and now is in the 21%. His doc isn't concerned at all.  It makes finding pants difficult though!  He is a little thick through the middle and we cloth diaper. Stick out tongue We are always rolling his pants.
