my phone just fell in the toilet

So, yeah. My phone just fell into the toilet. I had it in my sweatshirt pocket and when I turned around, PLOP!

The screen went white. Awesome. I tried drying it out as best as I can and then took out the battery to dry that out. I am not up for a new phone until October. Again, awesome.

Re: my phone just fell in the toilet

  • I totally feel your pain. A few years ago I was at a Redskins game and I had my phone in my hoodie pocket. When I turned around to flush it fell out and went right down the drain as it flushed. It was gone forever. I stared at the toilet for a good 3 minutes with my jaw dropped. I may or may not have been a teensy bit drunk too.

  • stick it in uncooked rice overnight, it will help draw out the moisture
  • I've heard that if you put it in a bowl of rice (uncooked, of course), that will help to dry it out. Apparently, the rice will absorb the water that you can't get to.

It's better to be pissed off than pissed on.

  • Thanks ladies! I really hope I have rice around the house. I know, I know, it's a staple that should always be in the house. I don't follow those rules.
  • I know exactly how you feel! I dropped my phone in the toilet a year ago.  A way to get rid of the extra moisture, stick your phone in a bowl of rice and make sure the rice covers the whole thing. Leave it in there for at least 24 hours. It's amazing how the rice will suck out the water.

Also, don't turn it on until it's completely dry. My phone worked after the toilet incident (except for the home button -- I think it was due to DH turning the phone on LOL) and DH's phone survived a swim in the washing machine by putting it in rice.

    Good Luck!

And I officially have no rice. Gahh!! I really was hoping to not have to drag C out today since I am working from home.

  • Put it in a bowl of uncooked rice! Its magic. I've done it several times & so have a few friends. I'd leave it in for at least an hour. Sorry if someone else suggested this, my phone isn't showing all of the replies to the thread.

I used for another year and never had a problem, so keep the faith
