We're having a hard time figuring out how to deal with it. She's on Prevacid, been about a week now, and the random vomiting has stopped but some other symptoms are creating havoc in our house.
She's having trouble going to sleep and seriously fighting it. I'm guessing it's because she's uncomfortable lying on her back so we put a wedge pillow in her crib. Of course it would actually help if she slept on it. She rolls around on and falls alseep everywhere but on the pillow.
She also wakes up crying a few hours after bedtime and is waking up early (5am) for a bottle and goes right back down.
What have you done to help your LO deal with the symptoms?
We're going to start feeding her less food at a time and more often throughout the day so maybe that will help nap times. We're also going to either stop her last bottle feeding before bed or just keep her up an hour later before we put her down.
Side note: we've been trying to transition her to milk for a while now and it was recently that the Dr suggested acid reflux was the cause and not a milk allergy. So we're at 50/50 formula to milk ratio right now and will slowly keep moving toward milk
THX.
Re: If your LO has acid reflux
it seems VERY odd to me that your LO would just be developing reflux nowsince she is over 1.
Personally I'd try a month of no cow's milk and see how she did because it could be milk
It can take up to three weeks for Prevacid to complete take effect. It sounds like nights are a real problem, you might need to give it twice daily or work a H2blocker (Zantac) to the mix. We worked with a pedi GI to get the right combination and amounts.
Also I would go off the milk for two weeks and see if the reflux subsides... is LO on a milk based formula? You might be able to do soy or rice milk instead.
