P90x

I bet this has been asked ten million times.

Has anyone done P90X? I have a co-worker who is loaning me her DVDs and I'm curious to see if any of you ladies have completed it. I have a lot of friends who started, and then dropped out after two or three weeks.

I've lost 45lbs in the past year and am at my goal weight (a little below now, yay!), but I need to tone up my arms and tummy, so I'm hoping this will work.

If you could tell me your experience that would be awesome.

Re: P90x

  • I started it a few times before I was prego, and the longest I made it was 6 weeks. The biggest problem for me was time commitment. You have to commit to an hour per day, 6 days per week, and actually one of those days is 90 minutes. For me that was unrealistic while working 45-50 hr weeks and commuting over an hour each day, plus trying to keep up with life. Maybe I'm a wuss though - my sister in law did it all the way through and lost the last 10 lbs of her baby weight!

Personally, I think that even if you do cardio several times per week and do maybe 3 of the strength training videos per week + abs you would be money ahead. I know that's not how the program is set up, but I think you could make it work for you.

  • Thanks - I think I will try it, but I worry about these "fad" exercises. Realistically, this type of program doesn't work for me because of the length of the workouts combined with the number of days out of the week to workout, BUT I wanted to try something new so I'll give it a shot. It just isn't one of those routines you'd do for the rest of your life to stay fit, and I'm more about finding something that I could do forever. But I've got to get toned. Somehow.

It's encouraging to hear your SIL lost weight on it!

  • I've been doing P90X for the past 7 weeks and am definitely seeing more definition in my arms and abdomen.  I completely agree that it's a major time commitment, and honestly, I've had to sacrifice sleep to do the program (ie., by needing to do it either before the kids wake up or after they've gone to sleep).  You WILL see results if you follow the program.

    Good luck!
