If you didn't know, I live in Mississippi. It has its pitfalls, but overall I really enjoy living here. I heard on the radio this morning that MS leads the nation in immunized children at 81% up from 18th in the nation last year. Apparently we started something called an immunization registry of each child so that regardless of the doctor they visit, they can access their vaccination history and see what shots they are missing, etc. It helped bump us from 18th to 1st. So we lead the nation in teen pregnancy, most obese state, etc. but we are doing something right.
What does you state lead the nation in?
Re: Oh yay my state is at the top for SOMETHING
Texas wins at everything! Haha!
We have a similar database and it was so helpful when we changed pedis and the old (flakey) one "forgot" to send over Kate's charts.
I'm glad to hear that MS is having success with vaccinating!
Well that makes sense. Of course we aren't original at anything. I'm just happy its working. I'll take what I can get.
I don't know about what my state is first in. However, the region I live in is 2nd in the country for the amount of smokers it has who have no plans on quitting.
They say it's part of the culture here.
Well, much like Mississippi, Louisiana is the underdog in a lot of areas. I have no idea what we are 1st in, but it's probably something negative so I'm not going to bother looking it up and posting it!
Yay! At least we're first in something...besides weight!
I didn?t realize you were in Louisiana.
I live in Houston but am from NOLA.
Louisiana is #1 for liver function - no other state can consume the amount of alcohol that we do and still function. I call that a win.
i heard once that NJ leads the nation in the highest number of c-sections!
as a side note, i really love where i live!!

I don't know anything about our vaccination databases, but.
New Jersey is Ranked #1 out of 50 states in Grade 8 through High School graduation rates;
Ranked #4 in the lowest (best) Student/Teacher ratio. Source: IES National Center for Education Statistics.
...Oh and we have JERSEY SHORE!
<----proud contributor to that statistic!
I just googled.
Indiana leads the nation in duck production...ugh. i hate this state.
Hahah that is funny!
Hahahaha! That is definitely important!
Yes, I live in Denham Springs. It's right outside of BR to the east in Livingston Parish. I don't know if I should admit that! Anyway, I would love to live in Texas. I've heard Austin is a really cool city. I've been to Houston, but the last time was about 15 years ago when I was still in high school.
Oh, and let me add that I do, in fact, love where I live, but I'm a little sick of seeing us on the national news. Seriously - 3 governors convicted?!
Oh, Louisiana is FULL of corruption! When I took Louisiana history in college I was shocked!
LOL. I live in Alabama. I don't think we're #1 in anything but whenever I hear about statistics regarding states, I always hear people say "Thank God for Mississippi!"
As in, we would be last if it weren't for MS.
Hah. that doesn't hurt my feelings- you are right. Sad, sad.
Oh - I wish there was a time when it was a surprise! There was a popular play in Chicago a few years ago called 'Hizoner' about Mayor Richard Daley (the first one) - and it basically just laid out the amount of corruption that started...waaaaay back in the 50's and prior!
True Story! And yet...we have no money???
