Wetting through=cut back on liquid? What do you all do?

Hey ladies,

For the last couple weeks my DD has been waking up a bit early-we go up and she has gotten soaked- through her diaper and her clothes.

We decided to go up one size of diapers early-as I had heard this would help, and it had helped in the past.

Well, it still isn't helping. She gets drinks-milk, water and juice at daycare all day and then she probably goes through 2-3 cups of Milk/water from 5-8. Bed time is at 8.

I decided to take her last cup and make it water.. since she doesn't go through that as fast.. and it still hasn't helped. Should we completely cut back and only give her 2 cups of liquid at night?

What do you all do to help prevent this? Thanks! I know she would sleep an extra hour more if she wasn't waking up wet.

Thansk again!"

  • Are you using overnights? We use overnights and a size up and they do well. DD also drinks a lot of liquid before bed and it has been a long time since we had a soak through. I would also say avoid the onesie under the pj's as it puts pressure on the diaper and then they leak more.

  • Do you use night time diapers?

I try to limit how much DD gets to drink up to an hour or so before bedtime. Maybe make her last cup between 6:30 - 7 and change her right before bed.

  • We stop all fluids 1 hour before bed, and use overnights. He still leaks through every once in awhile, but not near as much.

  • Ah.. Hadn't even thought about using over nights. duh. Or the pressure of the onesie.

Thanks ladies! I told my husband I thought we should cut back, he didn't love the idea- but he always seems like if SOMEONE ELSE mentions it- then he'll agree- so I told him I would check with you all so thanks!

  • Yes Overnights in a size up help a lot.

  • We had this problem too and we cut back on DS's drinking after dinner and it's helped almost 100%.  In general, we don't let him drink anything after dinner.  If he asks for milk or water, we might give him a tiny bit.  Maybe you need to change brands of diapers.  We sometimes use store brands during the day, but at night we always use pampers.

You may not even need overnights, necessarily (although they work well). We just use Target's brand cause they're so much cheaper. My LO is leaking too, so we're going to just move to the next size up. That usually does the trick.
  • He gets 6oz of milk with his snack around 4:30 and a cup of water with dinner at 6:30. He only drinks 2-3oz of water with dinner, after that we give him a bath and do our bedtime routine. He is in bed at 7:30, so he doesn't have anything to drink for an hour before bed and it's only a few ounces. When he used to have more to drink, he leaked. It didn't matter what diaper or size I used. We still have to use overnights to avoid leaking.
