Trying to Get Pregnant

Trying to get in AMAZING shape before TTC!

I'm at the point where we have plans to start (so soon!), but not right now.  Every since the beginning of the year I have been working out like mad and trying to eat better.  I've lost 3 1/2 inches around my middle (although the scale has barely moved thanks to all the muscle) and I'm a lot stronger!

What is everyone else doing to try to prepare their bodies? Recently I started Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred video workouts.

Once you started actually TTC what were some favorite workouts that you kept?

Re: Trying to get in AMAZING shape before TTC!

  • I'm not doing anything special or different.

I box, run, spin, pilates, bike and started swimming. I'm also training for a triathlon, well 4 this summer. For a long time I didn't work out because I was TTC and that is just insane. I've gained a good 7 pounds because of that thought process.

Be open and honest with your OB about how much you exercise and what you do and they will guide you if you need to slow it down. Best of luck!

  • We started actively ttc last summer, and I have put off starting any sort of exercise routine because I kept thinking, well once we're preggo...I'm sure I won't keep it up. (I dislike exercising so much!) But recently, I've realized that regardless of TTC, I have to be healthy and even if we don't become parents in the traditional sense, I'm still a valued person and I need to take care of myself.

I still haven't started any "exercise" regimens (although I did Jillian's 30-day shred before my wedding and WHOOO BOY! that was a great workout!) but have just started moving; walking the dogs, playing outside with the daycare kids (organizing races and obstacle courses) yoga on the days I can't walk the pups or take the kidlets outside. (due to rain, snow, etc.) I haven't noticed any poundage lost, but I feel better! I've gotten some compliments from clients and some friends that I look happier...and that's what counts, I think.

I think as long as you're not over-doing it (lifting weights that are too heavy, pushing yourself too hard, etc.) you'll be fine! Plus, having a good work-out regimen prior to pregnancy seems to follow through into pregnancy for most of my friends and family.

Have fun with Jillian! I wish you the best of luck with your exercising & TTC! :)

  • I try to work out 5 days a week with 30-45 minutes of cardio and then weights/abs most days. I would love to work out more, but that is what I can handle with my work schedule.

Jillian is amazing! I love her yoga video!

  • I"m doing anything different....even though I think I should. I have a high metabolism...thank goodness, so if I start it won't take me long. But one issue I do have is my muffin top. As soon as it stops raining and gets a little bit warmer, I'll probably take up walking.

Edit: As soon as I get the other car working, I can use my gym membership & free daycare. :)

  • I was working out every day with Jillian ~ Love Her, until our fertility doctor told me to stop. It is a very intense workout and wasn't doing me any favours in terms of TTC.  I would honestly talk to your doctor about what she/he would like you do to.  Ideally, according to my RE was a BMI of at least 20 for TTC.

    Good Luck

  • Yes I don't think I would continue with the 30 Day Shred when TTC, but I'll probably keep up my pilates matwork, walking the dogs, and going on the elliptical.  My sister-in-law is almost 6 months along, and she's still running everyday and competing in races with my brother.  I think being in shape has really made her pregnancy so easy for her, so I would really like to be and stay in good shape.

Plus I figure this is my last months before I put my body through pregnancy and birth, so it may never look like this again..haha

  • I have a WII so most of my work outs are on the WII. I have active 2, just dance 2, zumba, biggest loser game etc. I also bought a ton of things to go with it, like weights and such. I also have on demand with cable so I try and do walking workouts on that...

  • I do my same workouts I did before ttc. I try to jog/run 3 times a week, yoga or bodyflow once a week and weight training twice a week!

  • I am still trying to find a good time for me to work out.  I'm a teacher so I have to be up early anyway, and I just can't drag myself out of bed the extra 45 minutes early to work out before my day starts, and many times by the time I get home I am just so exhausted I don't want to go back out.  Oh, and I can't work out at home because my dog doesn't like it and she freaks out!

Now that DH started a new job much closer to home (we work opposite schedules), I started putting my workout clothes in the car and just go right to the gym after work.  So far this week has been good, and I actually feel much less exhausted after my run on the treadmill than I did when I got to the gym.  Hopefully I can keep it up!
