Someone please tell my mom, stepmom, husband, and grandmother this! I'm so tired of hearing that I shouldn't pick him up when he cries. I've read the books and so on, holding him when he cries at this age may actually reduce his crying after he's 6 months. I'm the mommy....I got this!

Re: You canNOT spoil a newborn! (vent)
I JUST HAD THIS CONVERSATION WITH MY MIL AND HUSBAND TODAY!
I was holding him and my husband said "you're spoiling that baby" and I said that newborns can't be spoiled...my MIL looked at me and said "OH yes you CAN". I glared at both of them and said that neither of them were doctors and I've read all the books..they shut up. Grrr...
I HATE that belief! It's illogical and horrible for the baby to go through!
I have had to repeat this line A MILLION TIMES! I feel like a broken record saying that I am not spoiling her. It kills me when we are driving places and I can't soothe her. That is the ONLY time I let her cry - I don't have a choice for safety, the car seat it is, I wish DD understood that.
My boyfriend is always telling me to let her cry it out to sleep and I repeat again and again not until 4 months and I don't want to use that method to get her to sleep anyway!! Grr!!
i agree ... cry it out does not work with newborns. my SIL did it with her newborn, so everyone on that side of the family keeps mentioning that to me. there have been a few times that i haven't been able to pick up mackenzie immediately when she started crying (in the car, when i was in the shower and she was in her bouncer in the bathroom) and she just got MORE upset.
Also, my pediatrician said that cry it out should only be used for up to 15 minutes, even with older babies ... good post!
I held my little girl for probably 22 of the last 24 hours, the other 2 she was in her swing or with daddy. She's only this ;ittle once. Why should I not snuggle her and soak up every moment????? We'll start the hard stuff like discipline & CIO when she's older.

Ditto this advice. My pedi did tell DH and that we can't spoil our newborn by holding her. He said to hold her as much as we want.
