2nd Trimester

10 weeks

Hi ladies! I had a checkup today and the doctor warned me we may not be able to hear the heartbeat on doppler yet, and we didnt. I am 10 weeks 4 days, I am still interested in knowing when other moms first heard the thump of their sweet babies heartbeat on a doppler for comparison

Re: 10 weeks

  • I had an appt at 12 wks & couldn't hear it on the doppler. Had to do an U/S. Then at my next appt (15 wks) we heard it on the doppler.

  • is it normal to not be able to hear it at 10 weeks? all the women I know personally are telling me anywhere from 7 to 10 weeks from their experiences :/ I have an ultrasound tomorrow, but I am wondering if I should go in expecting something bad???? my doc said my cervix is really high, which is apparently good, but why is everyone else getting to hear their heartbeat much earlier than I am? just concerned is all
  • I actually heard mine at what ended being 6 weeks (I originally thought it would be 9 but it wasn't).

  • I heard mine via internal ultrasound at 7w3d. The doctor's office hasn't tried just the internal doppler yet. I got a home one though and heard it for a second or two last week before the baby moved.

  • I heard mine at 7 and half with a sophisticated equipment (through sono). I heard it at 9 with a Sonoline B 3Ghz-BUT it took me 30 minutes to find it! Lots of ladies do not hear it until 12 plus weeks so you should hear it at your next appointment!

With an outer doppler or a vaginal U/S?

The vaginal U/S can hear it very early. The outer doppler can't.

  • I had my second ultrasound at 12 weeks (due to ovarian cysts) and the tech let us hear it for a split second.  That US was vaginal.

I have my 16 week apointment tomorrow and they will put the doppler on my belly for us to hear the heartbeat.

  • We heard it via doppler at our first appointment when I was 10w 6d.

  • Mine didn't even try at 12 wks, there was an u/s room open so we got a bonus u/s, but at 16 wks we heard it loud and clear:)

  • hearing it via doppler and via internal u/s are two different things.  anyone hearing it at 7 weeks is going to be via u/s, which is likely a simulation of what it would sound like based on the beats per min.

my dr won't try via doppler before 12 weeks.

  • I heard mine on the doppler at 8w3d but my midwife was really surprised we heard it that early.  They normally don't try before 10weeks but I'm thin and my uterus was in a forward position so she said she would give it a try.

  • I could not hear that early....do not worry.  I heard it at 13 weeks :)

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

If you're having an ultrasound, you'll probably be able to hear it.  It's the doppler that can't pick it up as early.  I heard the heartbeat on a doppler at 13 weeks.  But we didn't try to use a doppler earlier than that since I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks.
