dream feed?

does anybody do this? i am considering starting it right before I go to sleep..usually ronnie does eat at this time..but joey hardly ever wakes to eat..i am positive he is not getting enough to eat though..during the day they eat 4 bottles of 5.5-6.5 oz (that is the most they will eat).. and the 5th they usually eat only 1-3 oz and fall asleep..

i have tried starting everything super early (that one 5:30 day) and still fed every 3 hours..they still fell asleep at the 5th bottle..they are just so used to that routine, i guess. whether it be at 5 or at 7:30..the 5th bottle is it..sooooo they get from 25-27 oz a day, and i know they need more. ronnie wakes twice to eat, usually 3 oz at a time..so he gets enough. im just worried that joey doesn't.?

SO, i was thinking i would "wake" them and feed (joey does this super well)..

the baby whisperer said to do this, but healthy sleep habits says not to..just wondering what anybody else does?

Re: dream feed?

  • I've done it. DS was younger though. It worked out well. I might have to start doing it again because he keeps waking up 11:30 or 12 so right after I try to go to bed. I find myself just staying up waiting for him.

I say try it... it can't hurt!

  • We did it for a few nights but then I just started giving them more during the day.  Will they not take more than 5-6 oz w/ each bottle?  My boys take 4 8oz bottles a day (sometimes more).
  • nope..they won't take anymore..i dunno if it is because of their gentle little bellies..if ronnie gets overfed though (everyonce in a while his eyes are bigger than his stomach) half of it comes back up!

  • We did for a while. I work 8 p.m. to midnight from home and he was sleeping no more than a six hour stretch at a time. We would feed him at midnight when I got off and then he would sleep until 6. As he started to get older and we felt the need to get him into a bedtime routine we dropped the dream feed and at that time he just began to sleep from 10 to 6. Then it slowly backed up to the last feeding being at 8.

  • It didn't work for us...He still wanted to get up at his "normal" eating times, so after a week, we gave it up completely.  That doesn't mean it won't work for you though!  It's worth a try!
