Cloth Diapering

Dunk & Swish ?

We haven't set the sprayer up yet, so I just tried to dunk and swish with our first "peanut buttery" poo. I had a fleece liner in the diaper so I just stuck that in the toilet and  flushed, but nothing really came off.

Is the poo supposed to come off or does it just water it down so that it comes off better in the washer? Is it easier/better to scrape this type of bm off?

TIA!

Re: Dunk & Swish ?

  • Dunk and swish does not work for us, either.  I try to get as much poop off as I can with my sprayer; if you don't have that set up yet, I'd just scrape.  I was rinsing a particularly peanut-buttery diaper this morning and was very grateful for my sprayer.  I can't diaper without it.

  • it works great for us. Sometimes I leave it in the toilet for a while to work itself off.

If it's really sticky I also let it sit in the toilet for a bit (I trap one dry/clean corner under the seat so I still have a less-nasty part to grab on to.  Then I swish and dunk it after it's sat for a while and that usually gets most of it off.

  • I shake and swirl rather rigorously to get the poo off. Just flushing doesn't do the trick for us if it's  sticky poo. We use a the shower sprayer for really stuck on gunk but that can get messy so I usually stick with the d & s. I also don't stress too much if my hands get a little dirty- I have to wash them after a diaper change regardless so it's not like I'm going to have to go out of my way to get clean.
