Car Seat Inspection = 100 dollars

We had our seat installation in both cars inspected at the fire department yesterday (smiley face).  Love cute firemen!

Now, I will be returning the mats, shades, and mirrors since the firemen said the mats should not be there since there should be nothing between the seat and the car seat and the shades and mirrors can be tossed around the car in a crash.  He also made me think of my ice scraper...something I didn't think of before.

100 plus bucks for me in merchandise credit at Buy, Buy Baby.  Sweetness.

    that's good - when we went  the cute fireman also talked about waterbottles and how they can be projectiles in an accident...

    he also talked about your groceries, we have an SUV and will be getting a cover for the back part of the truck to cover anything back there

    After I got into a really bad accident a few years ago I have been VERY conscious of all the items in the car that can become projectiles in the event of a car crash- realistically EVERYONE should look around their car and see everything that can come loose and cause injury in the event of a crash. I went in with a nasty bump from my cell phone (which was plugged in at the time) and the paramedics told me about a guy who wound up with major facial burns from a coffee in a car crash. A friend of mine is a firefighter and he yells at people constantly about items rolling around loose in their car.

    I think these are all excellent points and it looks like I'll be cleaning out the car again!

    They have shades at BRU that static cling to the glass on the window, if you really want a shade?  As for the rest, yes all things to think about!

    yup, when i got mine done the woman said no shades or mirrors, so i'll be returning the ones in bought to bru.

    WTF???  DH tried installing the carseat while I was at work yesterday, took it to the firestation for them to check it and they told him they couldn't because it was a liability.  And you got free stuff too?  No fair :)

    Free stuff? I think she meant she has to take back the mirrors and shades she bought or got from her showers.

    Not all fire stations do this. You have to look it up.

    We got the exact same talk at the police station and we learned a lot. I was so glad I went. Ours said the mirror in the car is okay, as long as you have it hooked on snugly.

    Also, they said to ALWAYS drive with the infant seat handle down, especially if you have toys on it. This info I hadn't found anywhere else.

    We went online and found a listing of places that have car seat safety seat technicians to make appointments with.  Some were police departments, others fire departments.  It's definitely worth looking into!  I guess most people put theirs in incorrectly.  Scary!

    LOL! seriously!!!!!! 

    I don't know why CHP didn't mention any of this to us... maybe it's because my husband's car had just been totally cleaned out and detailed a few days prior. So now I have more to worry about. Thank goodness for door panel cup holders and a little door on the center console to keep everything in place... except for my purse on the seat or floor next to me, and the sunglasses on my face... duct tape?
