All of this school talk has come at an interesting time. Our plan all along has been to send DCs to Catholic school, HS and elementary. We have always said we would sacrifice where necessary to do this. I know it's a few years off, but I am already worried that no amount of sacrificing will afford us to send all of our children through Catholic schooling K-12. Honestly, I haven't looked much into our local public schools because it was never in our plan. I want to learn more about it now so I can feel educated and prepared should we have to decide that Catholic schooling isn't an option for us. I have absolutely no idea where to even begin. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Re: at the risk of sounding dumb.....
Being uninformed is not the same as being unintelligent. I completely understand where you are coming from.
We live in the same district, right? I'd be happy to chat with you. Aside from that, I recommend digging into the district's (and individual schools') website(s), reading online/published articles about goings on in the district, attending board meetings, volunteering at the school(s), etc.
I completely agree with TTT.
FWIW, I'm on the fence about the same district TTT lives in (which may or may not be your district... I can't remember). I haven't decided yet and still need to do research to make an informed decision. My backup plan is where I teach if I decide I want a different location and we haven't moved yet.
This is pretty much our plan, too. Plan A - stay where we are, forever. Plan B (if things ever completely fall out the bottom, which could happen in anywhere, at any time) - DC will attend the district within which DH is teaching/principaling. I'm a product of WC, so it can't be too bad...right?
