Question about spinning

If your LO is a spinner, do they get dizzy?  My ASD son isn't a huge spinner, but he does spin.  And he can do it for minutes on end and he never gets dizzy.  My 20 month old daughter is his polar opposite in every way, and when she spins (because it looks fun when her big bro does it) she turns twice and falls over dizzy as can be.  Anyone know how/why they can spin and spin without getting dizzy?

Re: Question about spinning

  • For a lot of the kids the condition is caused by or is comorbid with neurological damage or abnormality, hence they do not experience the same effects NTs do. At least this is what I understand.

  • It's to do with vestibular processing.  DS is the same way, his OT spins him on an "astronaut board" and he can get right up and walk a straight line.
