Anyone else constipated??

Sorry if this is tmi...I'm usually super regular and this is just miserable. I don't go but every 3 days now or so. My stomach has been cramping last night and today...is that from being constipated I wonder? It's either my stomach or my intestines that are cramping up, I can't really tell now that everything has moved around a bit. lol

I've been eating raisin bran for breakfast and eating salads! What else can I do?!

  • Yep, I had it bad at around 10 weeks, then it was gone, and it has returned lately.  You can take colace (stool softener), avoid bananas, eat a lot of fiber (frosted shredded wheat helps me).  You can take metamucil also.  Drink TONS of water. The more water you can get down the better.  I called my doctor when it got really miserable and they had a bunch of suggestions.  Oh, prune juice!  Good luck!

  • YES!  For the last month or so.  I was also very regular, but I'm sure drastically cutting back on my morning coffee didn't help.

My DR. told me to take 1 stool softner twice a day and to continue it, because the second you stop it comes back again.  You'll notice your stomach won't hurt so much after a little while too.  I now only go every other day, but its better than nothing.  Just check with your DR. before you take the stool softner to be sure your doc is cool with that.

  • I am very constipated. I'm only going around once every 5 days or so! And when I do go, I'm definitely not totally done! I'm going to the store now actually to get some fiber to put in my water to see if that helps!

All of this!  I was never very regular to begin with (maybe every two days pre pregnancy).  My prenatals have colace in them, so I sprinkle metamucil on my cereal every morning (and sadly, this doesn't always work).  Drink tons of water and try exercising or walking more.  If it gets really bad, I resort to drinking a cup of coffee.  It does the trick.  HTH!

  • Yep! Miralax has done the trick for me!!  I take it every other morning, and it really helps most of the time.  The only problem is that it makes me extra gassy also... Indifferent

  • Half a cup of strong coffee works for me.  I don't drink it every day, just when I need some help.
  • Yea:( I wasn't ever really regular but it has gotten bad during pregnancy. I have been eating lots of fiber, drinking lots of Water, trying to walking on the treadmill at least 30 mins per day, making smoothies with plum start juice and kirkland yogurt because it has a ton of fiber for a yogurt, and adding miralax into my smoothies or soup or drink of some kind. I'm not totally regular but I'm a lot better than first tri... Good luck, I know it's miserable sometimes:(

Try a stool softner.  My prenatal vitamins have one in them.  so far I have been free of constipation and hemorrhoids.

  • Flax seed. Throw some in your cereal/yogurt/oatmeal and it should get you going.
  • Thanks for all the advice ladies!:) Hoping this gets better soon

You will get cramps and pain in your tummy but my Dr. said its normal from being constipated. No it does not hurt the baby. I am now taking Colace and eating Fiber bars but man its still tuff. I look forward to pooping normally soon.

  • Yes I have been, I started putting mirolax in my water everyday and I have gone everyday since then. I still don't feel like I'm emptying myself completely but I feel much better!

  • I've had problems with constipation pre-pg, so naturally I was going to have problems with it while pg : Activia has REALLY helped things along, and it isn't as harsh on my stomach as other things are.

Drinking lots of water and using that FiberSure stuff on my food helps too.
