Induction WWYD Clicky

My ob mentioned the last time I saw him (March 15th) that if it comes to an induction, he won't let me go past 42 weeks.  He said anytime after 39 weeks if I request one he'll schedule one.  He was out of town last week so I saw another ob in the practice. She asked if I wanted to talk induction with her or wait and discuss it with my ob.  I had no more effacement and still 0 dilation.

I know my ob will ask me today if I have a preference regarding induction.  I quit my job as of March 15th (I start school full time in August) so my job is not an issue, nor is my "maternity leave."  I'll be 40 weeks tomorrow and though I'm high risk because of my seizures, it's not something that requires the baby to come out early or quickly.  I really have no problems to speak of, no feet swelling, bp still in very healthy range, discomfort comes in waves, etc.

Assuming all NSTs and ultrasounds come back healthy and there are no medical reasons for me to be induced ---

Re: Induction WWYD Clicky

  • If your cervix isn't ready an induction will more than likely lead to a c section if things go badly. I was induced at 41 weeks and it took 3 days (happens to a small percentage of people) but I ended with a vaginal delivery. My cervix was just barely ready to be induced though it would have been had I waited another week. We were on a time crunch though due to DH's work.

If you no discomfort or medical need I would just wait it out a bit more. More than likely induction will go smoothly and you will have a vaginal delivery.

  • I am in the exact same situation as you and we have the same due date. I just got home from my appt and still no progress. My cervix hasn't thinned, baby's head is high, I'm dilated to a 2 which I have been for weeks. My dr went ahead and scheduled me to start induction next weds night (41 weeks).

Part of me wants to just give up and say do it earlier. I'm tired of being pregnant and feel like my body isn't going to do what it needs to do anyway (a little dramatic, yes) but it's just frustrating. But I'm going to stick it out to 41 and at that point give in and be induced.

    Good luck!

  • I would probably wait at least until 41 weeks so that your body can try to do naturally what it is supposed to do.  Hopefully that way your induction can go smoother without much more intervention (c-section, etc.).
