I finally had to bite the bullet and go on Miralax. It is like a god-send. I tried everything to no avail before that. My OB rec'ed Miralax as a safe alternative, and the best stool softener there is. You can even take it long term as it's extremely gentle and not habit forming, it just draws water into your colon and passes out with the rest of everything else. I will be taking it until after my c/s.

The iron in my prenatals (Prenexa) had me constipated. I switched to GNC's prentals without iron and I am very regular now. I eat red meat, and the last iron check was great - so for me, the extra iron in the prenatals is not needed (at least for now...)
So glad this was posted today! I had to LEAVE WORK because my stomach was so upset and consitpated...ugh! I also have IBS and had myself pretty regular prior to getting pregnant, but now none of my old tricks work.
I will definately try some of these tricks though...thanks!
I feel your pain. I have never been regular to begin with and pregnancy is making things SO much slower.
I started taking Phillip's Colon Health every day and it really seems to help. It's the same kind of probiotics as Activia. I went from being backed up for a week to having success TWO DAYS IN A ROW!!!! TMI, I know!
I also drink TONS of water. This also seems to move things along.
My doc said Colace was completely safe to take as often as needed but for now, I'm sticking with the probiotics.
My OB told me that activia would be more for the other way of that issue and to use Milk of Magnesia and it works wonders! That and Benefiber helps and you can not tell that its in your water.

Re: "Holy Crap" So constipated...
As other have mentioned prunes (also dried cherries, apples and apricots), avacado, celery and fresh apples.
High fiber cereal like https://www.fiberone.com/Product/Cereals.aspx they also have yogurt. Try eating whole grain bread that has fiber added and drink lots and lots of liquids.
Just a word of caution all of the above also have a tendancy to make you pretty gassy.
If all else fails ask your doc for a stool softener. GL.
Fiber One bars & a big glass of metamucil!
Lots of water & a long walk.

Have you tried Frosted Mini Wheats? They seem to do the trick and I like Fiber One bars. GL!
