Need help with phonetic spelling of name

I tried googling this and had no luck, but figured you BN experts might be able to help since I often see phonetic spellings guiding people on pronunciation for names.

I am filling out my graduation information for my master's degree and it asks for the phonetic spelling of my name.  My first name is spelled Beryl and pronounced like Pearl with a B.  How would I write that phonetically?  I want to avoid being announced as Barrell (Meryl or Cheryl with a B) as this is the most natural (and common) way someone unfamiliar with the name would read it.

Thanks!

  • B-earl, although the spelling is different I think it will get the point across that it isnt b-eryl (which one would assume was said as barrell) or just write in - Pearl with a B! In any event congrats on your masters!

  • Burl. The funny thing is that's my great uncle-in-law's name. His brother is Merrell also pronounced like Murl. Strangeness lol.

  • Thanks, I wrote b-EARL.  I hope that works, but it won't be the first time if it gets mispronounced! haha

  • I would say Burl.
