Dumping our TV service

We decided to finally take the plunge. I admit that I'll miss watching the morning news over breakfast, but it'll save us $100/month!! That's a good amount of diapers! We still have netflix and hulu, so our poor TVs won't go completely to waste. I'm kind of excited!

    Go you! We never get TV service, except when we were renting and it came with the rent. There's so much online now you won't miss it - and you definitely won't miss the bill! We pay probably $40/mo for DS's diapers, so that's definitely going to make extra room in your budget!

    Congrats! We haven't had cable for a couple years now and it really isn't bad (especially if you have Netflix). I love saving the extra $ each month.

    However, when girls come on here and talk about shows like "One Born Every Minute", etc, I always have no idea what they are talking about.... Indifferent

    That's great! My DH's brother and family don't have TV at all and they just watch everything online. Doesn't seem to bother them at all and it's one of the things they cut out so his wife could be a SAHM. Smile

    We didn't have cable when that show first came on, you can watch it on the lifetime website.

    If you have a HD tv, you can also purchase an antenna, we got one inexpensively for $30 on line.  That way you can get all of the local channels, and still watch the morning news:) We have that, and it's nice to still be able to watch our tv! We dumped our cable 8 months ago, we have loved the savings!

    We don't have cable and I never miss it. FWIW you can still watch the local news and other major broadcast channels for free via antenna. Between regular free TV, hulu and netflix we don't miss cable at all.

    Do you guys know if you can get an antenna for an older TV? Our HD is in our basement family room, but I'd like it for our old box-style TV upstairs if possible.

    We had DirectTV and had nothing but trouble with it, plus it was like $80 a month - way more than we were told it would be... :(  So we canceled it recently. I missed it for about a week, but now I'm fine! We have a computer connected to our tv that we use to watch stuff on netflix and hulu, and DH is looking for an antenna to hook up to it.

    Jess & Adam, married 2009, precious Audrey born in 2011. BFP 1/6/13, 6-wk MMC discovered at 9 wks 2/11/13. D&C 2/18/13, second D&C 4/23/13 for retained placenta.
    BFP 8/24/13!! EDD 5/1/14, delivered healthy and sweet Zoey Leanne on 5/5/14 by repeat c-section.

    Good for you! We don't have cable either. We have Netflix and I may occasionally watch shows online. I do get a couple free channels over the air with an antenna too, so I can get some news, but I haven't turned it on in over 6 months. I just check headlines online. DH doesn't want LO to watch ANY TV until she is 5. I am perfectly willing to live with that. There are lots of better things we can do than sit and veg in front of the TV.
