What happens at 6 weeks PP check up?

I know they check you out, but do they do an internal? ?I'm totally terrified if they have to put anything, hands or whatever inside of me since I tore. ?I still pat dry even... I'm too scared to wipe b/c how sore I still am. ?My six week check up is tomorrow... and yeah, I'm scared!

What did your doctor, midwife do when they checked you out?

Re: What happens at 6 weeks PP check up?

  • mine checked my cervix with the thing they use for pap smears.

i would just make sure you tell them how sore you are still so they are gentle if they do end up doing anything like that

  • I had a really quick, painless internal but I was also all healed up.  Maybe before they do anything, let the Dr. know that you're still feeling tender and maybe he/she will be a little more gentle.
  • Oh man... I'm terrified...

I feel like such a baby... but I really am scared! ?DH said today, "Hopefully she clears you for sex!" ?I told him it didn't freaking matter what she said I'm not having sex probably for a few more months, it still hurts when I pee!
  • My OB does pp appts. at 3 weeks, and I had a third degree tear.  It didn't hurt at ALL when she stuck her fingers up there to feel around and see whatever she needed to see.  She was just gentle, I guess, and she also didn't press on my perineum at all, which probably helped in the pain department.  Just tell your dr. to be gentle.
  • I was totally scared before mine too. I had two episiotomies and still pat to dry as well. It was just like a regular pap visit and it didn't hurt at all.
  • I just had my 6 week appt yesterday and I am also pretty sore still.  She did an external exam and checked out my stitches and said I was "healing well, but still healing".  She postponed the internal until January because she thought that it might be painful for me based on her external exam.  She also suggested that I wait at least another 2, but probably another 4 weeks until I try sex.  She prescribed bc and I asked a few questions.  That was about it.

Good luck.  If you are still sore I would just ask your dr to wait!
