August 2011 Moms

Team Green? Plus a 2nd Time momma question.

Is anyone NOT finding out the sex of the baby?  We had our anatomy scan already and did not find out (we didn't want to).  Just wondering 'cause I see all these posts about joining team pink/blue after their anatomy scans.  Congrats to all you mommas and poppas that are happy to find out.

As impatient as I am, I have been told that it's the most exciting thing to wait.  Let the anticipation build!  I have also found it is hard to find any clothing that looks gender neutral...   I am hoping to feel up to doing a bit of shopping after the baby is born to get girly or boy clothing once the baby does arrive.  My SIL went shopping about a week after her youngest was born and another story I heard the lady went the day after she got out of the hospital!

Did any of you previous Team Green mama's have trouble getting to the stores for some shopping within a couple of weeks of when baby was born?

Re: Team Green? Plus a 2nd Time momma question.

  • I haven't ever been team green (WAY too impatient!), but I had no trouble getting to the store after my girls were born. The upside of a baby born in August is that you won't need too much stuff right away anyway if the weather is really warm. People will probably give you outfits as gifts, and you could always buy a couple outfits for each sex and just keep the receipts too.

I'm sure it will be really fun to go on a shopping spree after baby is born, though!

My situation is a little different. Since DD was born early and spent 7 weeks in the NICU I had plenty of time on my hands, though shopping was the last thing on my mind. However people were so excited for us that I received a ton of clothes for her right off the bat :) I don't think you'll find it too hard to go out and get stuff at first, and I have a suspicion that you'll get a lot of gifts when s/he arrives :)

  • I was Team Green the first time.  It was fine.  My DH wanted to wait and it was exciting.  There was no issue with clothing.  Newborns are in sleepers/onsies, which are easy to buy gender neutral.  Once my DD was born, girl clothes came in the mail and as gifts every day for weeks.  When I felt up to it, I went shopping.  Shopping wasn't a major priority in the beginning.

I will say that Team Green does avoid gender disappointment that sometimes happens when you find out the gender early.  After a long nine months/delivery, you are just so happy to have a cute, little baby that the gender isn't as important as your new role as a mother and what that entails.

  • I'm team green, and I'm really not concerned about the clothing issue ... newborns don't "play" a whole lot, so they don't need playclothes yet. Sleepers and onesies are easy to buy gender neutral. And I'm thinking a cute clothes shopping trip after a couple of weeks stuck in the house will feel great!

  • We're team green and SO excited to hear "BOY" or "GIRL" in the delivery room. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

I'm not too worried about clothing. It's going to be hot out, so baby will probably live in onsies and those are easy to get gender neutral. I also think a lot of people buy more clothes after the baby comes, too.

My BFF was team green with her son and she had no problem with clothing. In the first month he wore a lot of yellow, green, red and orange.

  • We were team Green with DD and are staying team Green for this little one! I love it! I love the surprise, and I feel like I have to meet this little person before I can name them.

We have thing leftover from before so we will reuse those, and really in the beginning, DD was just in a bunch of onesies and swaddled most of the time.

  • I had managed to find enough gender neutral clothes, but yes, it was perfectly doable to go out and find something more gender specific once he was born.  It was the most amazing thing finding out what I had just "pushed out."  I almost cried.

  • I was on Team Green with DD & am staying Team Green this time around too.  I got a ton of gender neautral pjs & onesies at my shower.  One of my most special memories was my girl friends coming to the hospital to visit & bringing with them tons of pink clothes & blankets.   I remember going out to the mall after my 6 week pp appt. & stocking up on girlie things.  It was really no biggie to keep her in gender neutral stuff in the early weeks.  She didn't suffer wearing the green & yellow. LOL!  She is a super girlie toddler with a very pink room. :)
