I just swaddled my LO for the first time since he was about three weeks old because he was crying inconsolably for awhile and I figured with everyone else raving about how swaddling has helped their LO sleep I decided to see if it helped, and what do you know he calmed down. I have no idea why it worked or what happened that he was so mad about but lets see how the rest of the night goes.
Also as a side note I definitely believe LOs this young can have a manipulative cry and develop a need to be held. Ever since the hernia was diagnosed on my LO I have been holding him a lot more to try and make him comfortable (because I could tell he was in discomfort and wasn't getting good deep sleep unless he was being held) and I believe that is why we are having a problem now with his nighttime sleep.
Re: We shall see. . .
I hope you guys have a good night, sounds like you need it! My LO doesn't like being swaddled either, but sometimes it will help him calm down if he is just having a rough day.
I also think they can have a manipulative cry. My LO will cry and cry until I pick him up and then he is fine and sometimes he will only cry with me and not anyone else. But I am ok letting him manipulate me into cuddles for another few months!

I second this. Babies this young have NEEDS not WANTS. Swaddling as an amazing calming effect. The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD explains and shows a lot.
