At my doctors appointment today, the doctor told me that with the second baby everything should be cut in half. Half the time in labor, half the delivery time, and half the pain.
DD1 was 26 hours of labor, lots of painful recovery. DS was under 2 hours, virtually no recovery. It was hands down my easiest labor. DD2 was about 8 hours of labor (my water broke, but no contractions so they induced). Still a pretty easy labor. DD3 was born today, in under 20 minutes with no pain meds. I would not call it an easy/pain free labor.
Mine were totally different, but #2 was definitely shorter.
With #1 I was induced at 40 weeks, labored for about 18 hours before I was completely dilated (went into the induction at 3cm) pushed for almost 3 hours before I ended up with a c-section
With #2 I was 3 cm at my 37 week appointment and went into labor that same evening, well actually about 3:30 am, I was 10 cm by 1pm and pushed for just over an hour and had a successful VBAC.
My labor was much more painful with #2 when it came to contractions. Since I was induced with #1 I was able to get an epidural pretty quickly, so I didn't have to deal with the pain for very long. With #2 I labored at home for awhile, had to drive to hospital, get checked in etc...I was 6-7cm by the time I could get the epidural, so I definitely felt the pain much more this time around. Recovery was completely different since one was a c-section and one was vaginal.
Both of my labors were 9 hours...but with DS I was given some Pitocin after my labor stalled between 4-5 cms. DD's labor was actually more painful because I waited to have the epidural and when my water broke painful contractions came right on top of the other. Still, both labors were very easy.
My first was 11.5 hours and the second was 3.5 hours. They were similar in pain and I got my epi within an hour of being admitted. With both labors my contractions immediately started at 30-45 sec long and 2-3 min apart, so by the time I get to the hospital they are 1min or longer and 2 mins apart. The first one I pushed for 45 mins, the second was 10 mins. I really do think for most people the second time is faster.
