Aside from folks who fully understand all variables that play into the equation, I get fired up when [most] people (especially parents) are anti-school levy. FB isn't helping my rage. Actually, a more general confession would be that I get really fired up when people spout off at the mouth when it is obvious that they don't fully (hell, even partially) understand WTF they are talking about.
This post has little/no point. I just needed to vomit this comment out into the universe.
Re: NBR: Confession
I am so confused about schools up here and it looks like we may finally have some movement on selling our house-which means buying a house- which means considering school districts. It makes me want to hurl thinking about it..
With that said- I also don't know jack about the school levys. Does that mean property taxes go up? I think I preferred paying income tax to the city/county that went to the schools better than property taxes, but eh.. who knows!
No help here, except to say I am all for funding schools. I don't understand how lakota schools has grown so much from what I have read, yet they shot down a levy. Uhm... how do you expect the kids to get to school when they can't afford gas for buses? New books? Hell, even chairs for all the kids to sit in?
:::Confused:::
The short answer is yes. The long answer would take quite a while to explain, because it's far too difficult to understand than it should/needs to be.
Lakota is a PRIME example of a community not understanding how school funding works and how ESSENTIAL levies are, especially in a growing district.
Oy. The internet around a school levy time is not always a friendly place. Some folks really have a hard time wrapping their mind around things because schools are not a business. Even though some think they should be.
That being said, the last time I went through this I really did learn a lot about putting myself in the eyes of the taxpayer. And I'm not going to lie, the thought of $242/$100K sounds huge... until you divide it by 12.
