Parenting after a Loss

HE laundry detergent?

Does anyone use this? Our washer crapped out over the weekend and we had to buy a new one. It says to only use HE detergent. Can you buy that at the grocery store and do they make allergen free ones?

(I may have put regular in it tonight because that's all I have and I desperately needed to finish washing the load it died in the middle of plus the load from the world's worst poopsplosion today...)

Re: HE laundry detergent?

  • We use Tide Free & Gentle HE (comes in a white bottle). They definitely have them at the grocery store :) They're usually right next to the regular stuff, just look for the HE logo on the front.

  • You should definitely use the HE detergent. Using regular can void the warranty and may have the same results as putting dish soap (for hand washing) in the dish washer.

  • You will have no problem finding HE detergent at the grocery.  Look for the HE logo on the front.  Almost every brand I've ever wanted has an HE option, including Free and Clear detergents.  Definitely avoid putting regular detergent in your new machine b/c it can make a huge mess! (Said from experience.)  It can cause a ton of suds and you'll have to run the rinse cycle 10 times to get them out!

  • DON"T USE REGULAR!  It will screw up the cycle - over suds....etc.  You don't want to wreck your brand new one!  We use tide free and clear and all free and clear.  you can get HE anywhere!

  • All Free & Clear (the concentrated version in the smaller bottle) is safe for all HE washing machines.

It also works in regular washing machines when bought by mistake and the HE logo only noticed about halfway through the bottle.  Embarrassed

This. And you can find a deal on a gazillion load bottle of All Free and Clear HE at Sam's Club.

  • I actually use regular detergent in my HE front loader and have no problems. Just use 1/4 to 1/2 the rec. amount for a non-HE machine.
