Who has big dogs in your household and is constantly asked " So are you getting rid of your dogs?" I have 2 pit bulls that are the sweetest.. and yes I know there are SOME who are bad and mean.. but it just pisses me off when people ask me that! I swear I get into an argument daily about my dogs... No they are going to be in the house, I am not going to throw them out just because we are having a baby!!
I love my babies!!! anyone else??
Re: Who has...
I don't have a dog, but I've been asked a few times if I'm going to get rid of my cat!!!! Ummmm....no! I can only imagine how much worse it would be with a dog.
Obviously if we had viscous pets we would have to think twice, although those that know you should also know that your dogs are gentle!
Oh definently! If I felt the slightest that my dogs would be a threat to my baby, I would be worried and figure out how to fix the situation... but I do not.. my dogs are great around kids!!
Funny you say you have a cat... my boss the other day was talking about how he heard that sometimes cats will suffocate the baby... I'm sure it is possible (maybe)! but IDK!
Oh my gosh! I hate it when people say stuff like that!! Like it's any of their business anyways. I'm own a dog grooming shop and have seven of my own dogs (2 Rough Collies, 1 Sheltie, 4 Shih Tzu's). My hubby and I live out in the country and have 3 alpacas too. People have even asked me if I'm getting rid of my alpacas.. Why? I haven't the faintest idea.
My dogs are my family! We have a great harmony within the pack, and I'm not going to leave my baby alone with the dogs unattended. Geeze. Some people think new moms are incapable of making decent decisions. All kids should be supervised with animals--my main concern is of the kid teasing or being rough with the dogs. :P My dogs are very friendly and unlikely to lash out without any reason. Especially the big guys!
I'm super excited for our first baby, and it doesn't affect my dog ownership at all.
Good for you to speak up and tell people how it really is! I hate how nosy people become when you're pregnant. *rolls eyes*
I could never ever get rid of my pups. (unless, of course, they actually harmed my child)
I'm a little concerned about the biggest, and youngest. chocolate lab. He is crazy sometimes, and I can definitely seeing that being a handful. But I love him way too much to make him leave!
"What did my fingers do before they held you? What did my heart do with it's love?"
actually that's not true--cats have been known to jump into cribs and lay on a baby...if it's a newborn baby that can't hardly move--it will suffocate.
I don't have big dogs, so I haven't really come up against this, but I do have a cat, had her since before my first was born. Everyone tries to tell me how dangerous she could be for the baby...well...my first born is alive and well isn't he? In fact, she was super protective of him and if he started fussing in the middle of the night, she would meow in our ears until we got up and did something about it. Lol.
As long as YOU think you child is safe with YOUR animals, then you just ignore them (or tell them politely to mind their own business
). That's all that matters. Most people look at their pets as their babies too, so telling someone to get rid of them is just wrong and extremely irritating and hurtful...
Happy Spring!.
ME
We have an Australian Shepherd Pitbull mix and he's still young which means he still has A LOT of energy and he's crazy and all over the place. lol
He's hard to handle and we get asked that all the time. OF COURSE IM NOT GETTING RID OF MY DOG!!!!!!! He's as much family as the new baby or anyone else.
What we're doing is starting extra obedience classes for the next 12 weeks to see if we can break some of his most annoying habits like charging at bunnies or tugging on the leash. Aside from that he's the sweetest dog too.
I love pitbulls!!! And you're right, they're such a sweet breed!!!!!!!!!!!
Every breed has its bad apples...its only natural.
yes we have an Olde English Bulldogge (about 65-70 pounds) and a Great Dane puppy (she is only about 50 pounds so far, she will probably be about 120 when she's done we think). It drives me crazy when people comment about them. They are our babies and I would never get rid of them for anything.
I got so angry the other night because a friend of ours put a post up on facebook looking for someone to adopt her two dogs. She has a 5 and 10 year old chihuahuas and she has a 3 year old and a newborn and apparently now she just realized that its hard work to have all 4. She said she can't give them the attention they need anymore so she is dumping them. ughhh I almost sent her a message reaming her out but I bit my tongue.
I don't have big dogs, but I do have two and I get that ALL.THE.TIME and it annoys the HECK out of me.
NO. We are not getting rid of the dogs. I have had my little girl since DH and I were engaged. There is no way. We have spent the time to train them, crate them when necessary and get the on a good eating, walking, playing and sleep schedule.
We have also prepared them for the baby, by placing some toys on the floor that they are not allowed to touch, playing a CD with babies crying in the back ground, etc.
I will also carefully monitor the situation. No matter how well behaved they they are, I would never leave them in a room alone with a baby/toddler. Or let my toddler run around the house with food in their hands and the dogs loose.
I also want my child to grow up around animals and learn to respect and care for them. I would love it if my LO and pups became good pals at some point.
Seriously though, one of the things I am most excited about is taking baby/pit pictures. I can think of nothing more adorable.
For all you pit owners, it might help to point out that in the 1940s and 50s they were known as "nanny dogs" and were actually trained to help keep an eye on young children.
