My 10 mo. won't poop :(

I would post this on the baby boards but I don't know them over there.

B hasn't pooped in forever... I think 5-6 days!!   I've given him prunes multiple times this week, still nothing.  What else can I do?  dh wants to give him a suppository. that scares me.

I've heard good things about this too.  Also pears worked well for us usually.

  • I've heard pears, prunes and peaches for constipation. I've also heard the temperature taking. Maybe try some diluted pear juice.

  • Prunes didn't work for us, neither did the temp thing... Perhaps pear juice?

  • Apple juice works well for our toddler, not sure if you give juice at all (we didn't until after 1). Taking temp rectally usually works well too. A warm bath seems to help too and lots of bicycling the legs. Hope he is not too uncomfortable.

  • If LO isn't uncomfortable it's not a bad thing; my little guy has averages 1-2 poops a week his whole life!

If LO is uncomfortable, ditto what PPs said.

  • my nephew has pooping issues, my sis started giving him 1-2 Tbs of freshly ground flax per day (along with some prunes) and it has really helped.

You may want to do a glycerin suppository to clear him out, then start prunes daily, or some flax.

  • Thanks ladies. We don't do juice yet. How long does it usually take for the temp thing to work?  I just did that this morning.

He's still in his perky, normal mood. He's not sleeping well, but he's never been a great sleeper and he's getting 4 teeth in at once. So, who knows if his crappy sleep has been from his poop issues or not.

If you don't want to try juice how about just oodles of pears to eat? The thermometer thing never worked for my kid, unfortunately!

  • Does it seem like it is bothering him.  DH a dr. has said that sometimes it is normal for LOs to poop only once every 7 days.

We had issues with DD at one point and you can tell it bothered her.  There were a few times we had to give her a suppository.  We found the kiwi and lots of water worked well.
