TO theme or NOT to theme?

Okay, there've been quite a handful of nursery posts these days.. so my question is, if you're going theme what is it? and if you're not.. well welcome to my world.

Re: TO theme or NOT to theme?

  • No theme here. I found a bedding set I liked for DD and just got items that coordinated with it. But there really was no big theme other than there being owls in the bedding and I used a few of those to decorate.

I have the bedding picked out for this one. No theme again. A similar set to DD's for a girl so if they end up sharing a room they will go together.

  • I don't really think of it as a theme, but I want the color to be yellow and will probably use a lot of animals, just because I tend to like things with animals on them.

My original plan was not to theme because I don't want to overload on anything.  But then I changed my mind because I started to collect elephants when I was in about grade 7 or 8 and since then everyone has constantly bought me elephant stuff so that I now have a collection of literally *hundreds*.  I figure if I don't have a theme for baby, everyone's automatically gonna go elephants and I think my husband will throw a hissy fit if that happens.  Right now I'm leaning towards a Dr. Seuss theme (I'd prefer animals, but then it's just gonna lead right back to the elephants!).

  • No theme here... DS's room has cute/cheap bedding from ikea, a vinyl wall tree w/ owls, and abc's from child inspired designs, and an old green rug I got from c&b for my living room eons ago that matches it all.  The rocker was 2nd hand, so the fabric is what it is - because I don't sew.

I didn't even make him a "room" until he was over a year old, when he moved out of our room!  I'm sure #2 will get similar treatment, as our current plan is to move out of state when it's about 2 weeks old. ;)

  • I kindove have a theme...If this counts. I like shabby chic looks and old fashioned looking items. That will be my "theme" I think.

  • I really haven't decided on a theme for a boy, but if we're having a girl, I thought we'd paint the nursery lavender (it's currently blue) and have a kitten/cat theme.

  • No theme, I hate themed nurseries.  We're doing an orange/green modern nursery and have found a ton of inspiration pics online so far. I absolutely love this green, so this will be our wall color. I also found a ton of awesome pics on this site, they have pics of nurseries in every single category. The cool mod is just what we are looking for.

  • no theme - the poor kid only gets half a room anyway - the rest willl be office supply storage (desk, filing cabinet, computer stuff)

the child is lucky to get two pieces of matching furniture that match in the room.

We do plan to frame a few prints from Matisse that we have.  Not exactly kid -like, but that isnt us.

  • We live up in the Northwoods of WI and would like to keep things fairly neutral. We are going to go with a "woodland/forest" theme with deer, bear, raccoons, birds, owls, fox, squirrels - etc. We just picked out our bedding from Lambs and Ivy last night!

  • I tend to base rooms around pieces of art.  I picked up a painting at an art festival last year of three birds on a tree branch - a momma, a daddy, and a baby bird.  We're using that as inspiration for the room in both colors (red, blue, purple, and green) as well as "theme" (blue walls with a tree and birds like DomerJen's)
  • DD's room didn't start out with a theme but has ended up with a lot of pink and green. I have been fantasizing about fun, bright, unisex colors if this one is a boy (they will be sharing a room until we buy a house). I saw a grey and orange celebrity nursery in some magazine that made me happy.

  • I do not want a theme, but DH does.  I will win  :)

The room is painted a light yellow right now.  We will go with a color theme so things match and then maybe do some cute accents here and there depending on what the gender is.  however, I will not go overboard and have everything in one theme.

  • Another anti-themer here.  I like a modern, non-baby look and we'll be using yellows, red, black and white.

  • We are not really doing a theme, but I am sure we will end up having an ocean/beach influenced room, like the rest of our house. Me & DH have a passion for the beach/water so I am sure that will be brought into our babies room.
