Hi everyone,
I'm 30 yrs old and have been TTC for about 15 mos with no luck. DH just found out from SA that he has very low count and motility. We just saw a Reproductive doc last week and our only option is IVF w/ICSI. I was wondering if anyone knows of success rates (first time).
I have to wait until my next period to start all of my testing to makesure everything is ok on my part. I feel like the antisapation of it all is going to drive me nutty! I was told that we are pretty much looking at the beginning of May to start all the injections and retrieval! This is very exciting and overwhelming all at once and once you start it seems like it all happens so quick. I was also wondering is any of you ate certain foods to make it stick once implanted, I've heard of the pinapple core?
Should I be doing anything else to prepare myself or my body for all of this?
Thank you for all of your replies, I'm sure they will make my mind a bit more at ease! ![]()
Re: About to start IVF with ICSI, any advice?
My understanding is that couples that NEED ICIS (due to low sperm count and mobility) usually have sucess rates similar to those couples that do not require ICIS. Think of it this way: They pretty much know why you haven't been sucessful getting pregnant, and they know what to do to "fix" it.
My ER gave me a boat load of literature to read, unfortunitally I don't have it with me, but here is some info from their website on ICIS: https://www.shadygrovefertility.com/icsi
You may also want to ask your RE about sucess rates as they differ between clinics (although usually not by much). My RE had a computer program where he entered some key numbers, like my age and how I responded to the meds I was on during IUI, DH's sperm #s, etc to "guestimate" what my sucess rates would be with IVF. But that was based on all the treatments at their clinic.
Good Luck!

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid. Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth. If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP. My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!
Welcome! It is all very overwhelming and exciting!
Success rates will vary based on your individual diagnosis, lab results, age, etc..., but generally they are around 50%. I'm sure you're RE can give you a ballpark figure to work with.
Here's a link to one of my posts from when I was about to start my IVF. It lists the things I was thinking of doing to prepare for the cycle. https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/43365281.aspx
Good luck!

Like Faith said, sucess rates really depend on many factors.
In terms of preparing, I cut out alcohol and caffine sereral months prior. This isn't necessary, but the way I saw it - I was spending a TON of money for this and I wanted to do everything I could. I also started taking prenatal vitamins when we first started going to the RE (about 10 months prior to the IVF). We both started eating better too - more natural foods.
Best of luck to you!!
I'm not to the IVF stage yet but wanted to welcome you to the board and wish you loads of luck with the IVF cycle!
Two C/P and Lots of Tests
Me = LPD + cancer survivor, DH = low count and morphology
IUIs #1-5, January 2011 - June 2011 = BFN
IVF #1 in July/August 2011 = BFP!!!!!

Thank you very much! I wish you the best as well. I was not a canidate for IUI, I think I was hoping for that going into see RE, my husband has severe male factor, very low so thats why IVF was recommended.
It is all so very frustrating because of the unknown, not to mention the cost. I am trying to stay positve and as less stressed as possible. My good friends just did their first IVFwICSI and it was a sucess with twins so far, I guess they have to wait a few more wks to makesure its not quads! Hopefully I have the same luck and just one will stick!
I just read a few posts about what you should eat for implantation and lots recommended POM juice and the pineapple core, just incase you didn't know. Lots of luck to you!
