Discussion: New car seat guidelines

I must admit I don't understand the new car seat guidelines having your toddler rear facing until 2 yr olds.

I have tried it and DD's legs are either bent or up on the back seat. She looks uncomfortable and is not use to it so she whines and whines the entier car ride home. The car seat needs to be re-engineered asap. I can't get use to not seeing her and be able to pass things back and forth with her. It will be non issue in three months when DD turns 2 but as it stands, this will be difficult for me and DD#2.

What are your thoughts?

  • I don't believe they have passed this law yet, so you technically do not have to do it.  Its just advising you that you should do it.  I am for whatever is safest but was SO looking forward to having DS front facing when he turned 1.  He hates the car as it is.

  • Broken legs are not as dangerous to a child as a broken neck or snapped spinal cord sustained in an car accident.
