Shaking My Head At My Sister...

My older sister is about 4 and 1/2 months pregnant with her second child. Its a tense situation as she did it on purpose without even having a relationship so its put a lot of strain on my mom and dad.

Saturday evening was my baby sisters 18th birthday dinner (cant believe shes so grown up!) at a local chinese resteraunt.  I was at their house getting ready and I heard my older sister yell for my little sister and say "Will you get my boots from under the bed? I cant get down there" What? I asked her why not and she snapped "Because Im pregnant and my back hurts. I cant get down there, you have no idea" Oh thats right, I have no idea considering Im almost 32wks lol. Once we got there to eat she was royally getting on my nerves. They had the seafood buffett and she made sure to point out Im not "supposed" to eat crab, shrimp or the lobster ragoons. I told her that yes, in fact you can have seafood, I specifically asked my doctor about it. She started saying "Well my doctor said NO seafood or shellfish" Argh we go to the SAME OB office, its the only one in town...

DF and I moved this weekend (yay! kinda stressful but a much bigger house!) and my family was offering to come help clean and move. My sister made sure to comment "Oh I cant come help, I cant lift anything or be around fumes". My other sister informed me that my older sis hasnt cleaned a thing since being pregnant and yells at them when they clean the bathrooms or dust saying "I cant be around that stuff! Do it when Im gone!" DF looked at her with his eyebrow cocked and made sure to say "Kaylan still cleans and shes fine" lol

She makes me laugh how she just goes along with everything youre "supposed" to do without researching it for herself. I have a cup of coffee, I get the caffeine speech, I ate a hotddog, "Why are you eating that?! Theres nitrates in that!!". I kept up with exercise and she made sure to let me know that I cant go over 140 hbm, a myth that has long since been debunked.

Last night we were over at my moms picking up my cat, they watched her so she wouldnt get in the way while I cleaned and such, and my sister came into the room with a tube of cortisone pain cream and asked mom to rub it on her aching back and shoulders. Shes so dramatic I dont know how my family deals with it. We didnt get along so great before this and I definitely dont agree with the choices she made but it would have been nice to have someone to share the experience with as most of my friends dont have babies.

I told DF Ive been going about this whole pregnancy thing all wrong and I need to start milking it lol. I crack jokes all the time like "Babe come help me outta the rocker, Im stuck!" or "Sweetie can you get the milk outta the fridge? I shouldnt be lifting anyhting" lol Hes great to me and if I were serious Im sure he would but it amazes me how she acts. Im so thankful pregnancy didnt make me act like that.

Do you guys have to deal with any pregzillas or pregnant women who try to tell you what to do?

Your sister sounds like a peach. . .she got pregnant for the second time on purpose without a stable partner while she is living with your parents?

  • I had one of my parent's friend's husband giving me a lecture about how I should not have been shoveling snow last week- I explained that DH had done half the lane in the morning (he always shovels the walk and a path to my car- sweet) but I just wanted to finish it for him and mostly pushed the snow to the side and carefully lifted what I needed to because DH was working OT and I thought it would suck for him to come home and have to do it. I then mention I was planning on waxing our floors this week and was told not to do that either (I seriously sweep, then walk around with a bottle of wax, dump some on the floor and mop it around- not hard!). I'm careful about what I do and how I do it- but I don't plan on spending the next 7 weeks in bed.
  • I think we have the same sister! Creepy! She sounds like a complete idiot. I don't like drama queens to begin with and especially drama queens that use the "but I'm pregggnnnnnaaaannnntttt" excuse. It's one thing to say she can't lift something that is actually heavy, crawl under a bed, or something like that, but if she can't even get her boots when she's just 4 and 1/2 months what in the heck is she going to do when she's further along? If I were you I would keep a bottle of Windex bottle filled with water at my side to spray at her every time she gets too close.

Yup, she was trying to trap her fvck buddy into a relationship and it backfired, who would have seen that coming?

Haha "pregasaurus rex" love that term!

  • I've found that it's better to just ignore the things that other pregnant people believe.  There's so much conflicting information out there and people believe what they want anyway... My BFF also went to the same OB as me, so I'm sure we had the same 'rules', but she adhered to ones that I don't and vice and versa.  She completely cuts out caffeine, where I go by the rules in my OB's 'handbook', which is < 200mg per day.  She's just generally more cautious than I am and will listen to anything someone tells her (when her DS was born, I wasn't allowed to take his newborn pics with a flash, even though she kept her house as dark as a cave, because someone told her it would make his eyesight poor).

If someone questions one of my habits, I just say that I checked with my OB and she's fine with this choice, which usually shuts them up.   But I try not to comment on other's choices because I know it bugs me when they turn around and do the same thing!  Sisters are a whole different story, I know, but it sounds like she's just going to be this way, so may as well find a way to deal with her!

I dont overdue it or at least I dont think I do but I still climb on chairs to change lightbulbs, mop, scrub the bathrom ect. I dont remember her being this bad with her first, she was still dramatic but not to this extreme. I think she just does it for attention. My mom will ask if Im feeling ok or how me and the baby are and she always interupts with how badly she aches or how badly her head is throbbing. I just dont understand it, she lives with my mom, I see them about everyother day. Im sure my mom asks her how she is way  more that she asks me, so why try to dominate all conversation?

    BAHAHA Im totally stealing this!

And i was in the Navy for my first pregnancy, so when i got pregnant they sent me to shore duty with a bunch of other pregnant women... I would NEVER want to do that again! (and you can tell your sister all we did all day was clean LOL) Pregnant women just dont seem to get along with other pregnant women. My best friend and i met there, and we were goof friends for a couple of months, and then we just stopped talking to each other because it go too bad.  And now we are both pregnant again but in different states, and i am so serious she is getting on my last nerve! and apparently i get on her's too but according to her she does nothing wrong.

I think it best to just steer clear of her until after you deliver, well i hope thats possible anyway.

I don't even understand the desire to live like that. There is no one else in my family who is pregnant right now, but I do have someone who doesn't have kids always telling me what I should and shouldn't do.

  • Beets, eggplant, lettuce, radish, spinach, collard and turnip greens, and celery all have nitrates, too.

I don't understand the helpless pregnant mentality.  I get that some people do actually have major medical complications during pregnancy.  And I get that even the aches and pains can be too much some days.  But, come on, you aren't incapable of everything!

  • I work with women like that! They walk around all day long yammering about how they're intensely uncomfortable and not allowed to do xyz because they're pregnant and oh GOD how they suffer!

Because of my size pre-preg I don't look super knocked up, I can pass for just more fat which is fine and so when they found out I was pregnant they assume I'm early..when at 34 weeks I'm still a good 3-5 weeks ahead of the most pregnant of them. I've heard about how green tea will kill babies, no hot dogs, no sushi, no fish, no caffeine, no lunch meat (they give the poor girl who comes here from mr Goodcents each tuesday such the side eye..)..

I honestly want to ask half of them how they think the human race managed to survive to this point. I've vomited daily since 9 weeks even at work. I've dealt with SPD, I've got this weird fibroid degeneration thing. NO ONE save the HR lady knows about it. I'm not sure why they insist on loudly discussing every aspect of their pregnancy. It's sort of creepy.

..oh wait, no. I did ask IT if they would mind carrying three computers upstairs for me since I wasn't supposed to do it while I was on lifting restrictions after a SCH bleed.. damn, I've become one of them

Haha this is how I feel, I think most people know someone who thinks of pregnancy as an illness and handicap (I do know that some people have real medical conditions that make it more difficult).

But like everyone has said your sister sounds like a gem.

  • I wouldn't be able to tolerate being around anyone like that, let alone my sister! Yikes... sorry! Thankfully everyone I know and associate with seem to be opinion-less, or if they have opinions they keep them to themselves... I was blessed with a wonderful mother-in-law too which has been amazing. I hear so many horror stories and I'm not really sure how I got as lucky as I did, but I'm not going to question it!

Good luck... :-/ Just try to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy :)

  • Ugh......yeah, we've got one in our fam too.  My husband's nephew's wife (she's our age 30ish) is 37 weeks.  Since the very week that she found out she was pregnant, she's been doing things like rocking out of chairs as if she can't get out (didn't even have a bump yet), complaining of some sort of pain (usually back or RLP..now its just an all over pain), having a fit if her husband doesn't do EVERYTHING for her including things that he doesn't even know that he HAS to do and using her pregnancy hormones as an excuse to be an uber ***!  Its so annoying!  We went out to a nice restaurant the other night and I made the mistake of going to the bathroom with her...she made sure that EVERYONE in the bathroom knew that she was pregnant..since her giant melon wasn't enough of a give away...she held her hand on her back, winced and weeble wobbled her way around until everyone was talking about her belly.   Then she sat at the table and made her husband rub her back while he also rubbed her belly in the middle of eating dinner.  I mean, talk about milking this situation for everything that its worth!  Its so annoying to watch!!!!!!  lol   My husband was so happy that he doesn't have a crazy, pregnant, hormonal lunatic as a wife.  lol

  • Your sister has always made me roll my eyes and lament our society. Or maybe that was Lisa. I'm not sure. I think it was both of you actually. I don't know how you two handle your BSC sisters.
