Babies: 0 - 3 Months

c section recovery question

I had a c section delivery and understand that I should not do any major activity or exercise for about 6 weeks but my midwife mentioned that I also should not carry baby in a sling for that amount of time either.  I think the concern is that it might irritate the incision?

Is this correct? My baby weighs about 7lb right now and I am not saying I want to carry her around town doing a bunch of errands but I would like to use the sling around the house or for at least a short walk around the block.

Thoughts?

Re: c section recovery question

  • I was carrying DS in the wrap pretty much as soon as we got home from the hospital. As long as you're not over doing it, you'l be fine. Your body will tell you if you're doing too much!

  • I started using the Moby after about 2 weeks. I agree with PP as long as you dont over do it you should be fine.

  • I used the Ergo carrier with the infant insert prior to 2 weeks.  Just listen to your body and do what you feel comfortable with.

  • My doctor told me to carry nothing heavier than my baby in her carseat.  So a sling would be just fine if it doesn't feel like it's pulling or causing discomfort.
