Pet peeves..

When pregnant my biggest pet peeve comment that I got was related to sleep.  Like sleep while you can... you won't be getting any sleep when the baby comes.  What a dumb thing to say.  Obviously you can't stock pile sleep or prepare yourself for being tired.  It's just pointless.  And, it turned out to be so NOT as bad as ppl made it seem.

My pet peeve since having a child is when people say things like "my baby doesn't like this or that"... I hear it a lot about being swaddled or tummy time.  It's a newborn!  They don't come with long lists of opinions on their likes and dislikes!  Geez.

 What are YOUR pet peeves?

Re: Pet peeves..

  • AMEN to the dumb "sleep while you can" comments during pregnancy. I got so sick of hearing that. Besides, I had the hardest time sleeping those last few weeks due to pregnancy insomnia and being hugely pregnant and uncomfortable.

My biggest pet peeve now that C is here is the conflicting (and unwarranted) advice I get from everyone. We even heard different things from the nurses in the hospital. One would tell me to nurse skin to skin, and then another would come in and scold me for stripping down my baby, saying he was too cold. Once we got home, MIL wanted to put in her two cents about everything: "You really shouldn't be lifting the car seat," or "You aren't supposed to use tap water for bottles.. you have to use Nursery water at least until 6 months" or "Don't take that baby out in public.. and if you do, sanitize your hands before and after you do anything." Thanks for caring, MIL, but C is 10 weeks and thriving; he hasn't gotten sick yet, so I assume we're doing just fine as parents. :)

Sorry.. didn't mean for that to turn into a MIL rant. LOL!!

ETA: Had to add one more thing. I've had quite a few concerned women (my mom included) talk to me about the evils of vaccinating babies, or saying that I should look into spacing them out and using an alternative schedule. DH and I have done the research, TYVM, and came to the conclusion that babies who get their vaccines on a traditional schedule are just as healthy as babies on alternative schedules. DS got his 2 month shots recently and lived through them. Surprise

  • I hate it when people (friends and family) refer to Kelsy as "the baby."  She has a name, dangit...use it!!!

  • I hate that my parent's call Lucas, Luke. Yes his name will probably be shortened to Luke when he's in school, but we named him Lucas for a reason. If we wanted his name to be Luke, we would have named him that.

  • I feel like, ever since I've had DD, people feel like they have a right to know intimate details of my breasts, vagina, and sex life. Its like every little old lady I meet needs to make sure that I'm taking proper care of my nipples and that my husband's wiener will adjust to my new shape down there. Really? I don't think that this is proper conversation for the deli counter at the grocery store!

I'm also not shy about BFing in public. I drape a blanket over us, but it never fails that when I'm feeding DD in a restaurant, someone has to come up and ask me questions, or make a comment about society and breast feeding. I'm not trying to make a statement, just feeding my kid!
