I hate to admit defeat, but truth is, my 12mo doesn't want hard spouts or slightly soft spouts. And at this rate, she's going to become dehydrated because she only drinks real quantities if it's from a bottle, which I'm getting rid of.
So any recommendations on a sippy that she can suck on similar to a bottle that will help with the transition?
Re: Sippy cup most like a bottle?
We used the take and toss hard spout sippy cups with every meal. I would have to hold it for him but he would drink about an ounce at every meal (I just did water at first to not waste milk). Eventually he started drinking more (he got it at every meal for 3 months before I saw any progress) and now he drinks everything out of it with no problem.
I was going to go cold turkey, but I didn't have to. I just had to work my @ss off and be consistent for MONTHS before it worked. I only offered the "bottle" sippy when he first woke up and an hour or so before dinner. That way I knew he was getting enough to drink.
Good luck, switching to the sippy was the hardest thing we've done so far.
He did see my niece drinking milk from one of his sippy cups while we were eating one night and that made him more interested in drinking out of it.
Yeah, I agree that it's just a glorified bottle, which is why I was resistant. And I guess I'm mean, cause I think that if I keep giving her formula in a bottle during the day, she will never take all her milk from a cup. So I've cut out the bottle and only give it to her at the end of the day.
BUT, even with that, she's not getting enough liquid. Yesterday was our best day all week, and she only got 11 ounces of milk/formula.
Was it like that for you too for 3 months? I'm worried that she'll get dehydrated, and my mom says to just go back to the bottle, but I really don't like back-tracking. Kinda lost.
Since I gave him the glorified bottle twice a day he got 16 to 20 ounces from that. Then he got 3-5 ounces from drinking out of the hard spout sippy cups. He slowly drank more out of the sippy and there is also water/liquid in a lot of food so I never worried about him becoming dehydrated.
OK. Thanks!
I think this one is closest to a bottle because you can suck on it, all the other soft spouts you have to bite down to get the liquid out.
