Places will do it that early and some people get their gender determination that early. The only reason that we aren't doing it is because my friend did an elective ultrasound at 16 weeks for gender and was told that, 100%, she was having a boy. At her 20 week ultrasound, the doctor said she was, 100%, having a girl. She had a girl.
For four weeks she had planned on a boy, gotten some things made for him, etc. and then it ended up being a girl. I know that she should've just waited, but the ultrasound tech was absolutely sure it was a boy. It turned out the umbilical cord was in between the baby's legs and that's what the tech saw.
I planned on doing and elective one today. Ill pay out of my pocket my anatomy scan probably wont be for another few weeks. I have a dr appointment next week but I don't think they will try to determine at that time, ill be 17 weeks then.

from everything I?ve read so far although you can get told the gender at that stage it?s better to wait a little longer to get a more accurate view of it. I?m really impatcient and want to know asap but I don?t want to go for an unecessary scan when I can wait a little longer and know for definate what i?m having
