I was just heating up my (very late) lunch at my office's communal microwave. A co-worker pushed me aside and told me not to stand too close to the microwave bc it could fry my ovaries/eggs. She then proceeded to ask me if and when I want kids and if Im actively trying right now. I'm keeping our TTC journey a secret from everyone but especially from work people. I didn't really know how to respond so I just babbled something about wanting kids in the future. She is actually a very nice person but clearly doesn't have very many boundaries. Anyways, has anyone heard about the microwave thing? I know that radiation isn't good for you but I thought that most of the newer microwaves omit very little radiation.

Re: "Don't stand too close to the microwave- it could fry your ovaries"
Wow, that is one nosey co-worker! Someone just said this the other day to me, about microwave radiation. I wonder how long you would have to stand in front of one to actually have a significant amount. I took lots of radiation bio/physics classes in undergrad, and I don't remember hearing anything too important about microwave ovens. You actually are exposed to radiation just sleeping next to someone. I always figure there are worse things to worry about.

In all seriousness though, all the microwaves I ever use are mounted at eye level. So if anything is getting fried, it's my brain.
