Now that some of us are getting into our second trimester, has anyone decided where they are going to register? All I ever hear about baby registries are complaints, and I'm trying to figure out where a good place to register would be. I was disappointed that Baby Bargains didn't have any reviews on baby registries.
Is it a good idea to go with an in-store registry, or an online one? Maybe one of each? Any second+ time moms with recommendations, good or bad?
Re: Best baby registries?
Others have mentioned registering in several places where you'd actually buy from, to receive coupons and discounts on baby items plus you get a discount on any registry items not purchased after the baby is born (Target, BRU).
In a related note, I always wonder why people register for small dinky items (bridal and baby) like clothes hangers, nasal aspirators, etc. That seems like the kind of mundane essentials you can take care of yourself. If I was purchasing a gift for someone, I'd like to make a more significant contribution than a pacifier or a toilet plunger (SIL bridal registry).
I actually love to buy lots of those little type things when I see them on a registry and bundle them all in a gift together. They're not really the "fun" gifts, but still definitely needed, so they are good to buy and put all together, or a couple of them with something a bit more fun like clothes, or whatnot.
I'm trying to avoid BRU. I thought about Buy Buy Baby, but they're 2 hours from us.
So I'm thinking Giggle and Diapers.com. I thought about Amazon, but diapers.com seems to have better prices and just as much stuff. We'll see, I may change my mind. I don't plan to register until after our anatomy scan. We're getting a lot of hand-me-downs so our shopping list is quite short.
I would probably suggest one brick and mortar store, for those who don't want to or don't like to shop online. I know that I personally like to see the gift before I give it (bad experience once) and a lot of the older generation (grandparents) don't necessarily shop online.
Also, I always wanted to keep some lower priced items on the list for those that didn't want to spend a whole lot... so when I got married I tried to find plenty of stuff in the $20 and under range for those people who wanted to give, but couldn't afford to give much.
I was thinking this as well. I was thinking I might use Amazon, and then BRU. I personally don't like BRU and we don't have one near us, although there is a Toys R Us with a baby section. But I know a lot of people like to grab a gift off the shelf the day before the shower and bring it. I feel like if I don't give people at least one choice of "real" store I will be getting things that aren't on my registry.
