I recently had the CVS procedure done and afterwards the doctor said he was only able to get 10 (mL - I guess) when he actually needed 15. He wasn't sure if he would get any results or not. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yeah I had to wait extra because they actually did not have enough to get flash results for a specific (random) thing we were testing for, since that lab got the "leftover" sample after the FSH and full chromosome testing was done. It's awful!
I am thinking of you! Was it bloods or the measurements that was off? I had a NT of 3.2 which jacked up my risk. I am old though. Everything was fine though! I know that this comment is annoying because when you are in the moment, it's so stressful, but there is a 81/82 chance all is perfect. ((hugs))

My blog: Midwest Chaos
I think it must depend on the place that you are going to. I live in southern NH so I have the luxary of going into Boston if I there isn't an appropriate provider up here in NH. The place I was going to go in NH wouldn't see me until I was almost 13 weeks along when everything on their website said they do it 10-14 weeks which is the benefit of doing CVS over an amnio. They said it was because they may not get a big enough sample and have to do it over again. I called my OB and got a referral to go to a bigger hospital in Boston, MA and they took me at 12 weeks, which they said they could have done it at 10. When I met wtih the Dr and my Genetic counselor they explained that it will take 7-10 days for results but if they don't get a big enough sample it could take up to 4 weeks because they have to wait for everything to grow. The other drs office was still telling me they won't get a big enough sample and they would have to do it over again but the bigger hospital said they wouldn't have to do that it would just take longer. Long story short I think it just depends.
What ended up happening to us is that they had enough sample. It took the full 10 days but we had all the chromosomes looked at and then the genes looked at because we have a 1 in 4 chance of our baby having Cystic Fibrosis. You may get your results sooner because they would just be looking at Chromosomes for DS but if they think the sample size is small maybe they can let it grow longer and you'll still be ok but just have to wait a couple more days. It's very scary right now but it's all going to be ok. We had a 1 in 4 chance and we are having a healthy baby girl. I feel like my prize for going through everything is not only my piece of mind but also getting to find out what it is a bit earlier. Definitely not worth going through for gender but something to be positive about and when you find out you are having a healthy baby you can go crazy and buy all kinds of baby stuff. After all of that I needed to let myself be excited and now my house is pink crazy! Sending you lots of positive vibes. Sorry this was so long
