2nd Trimester

if you have a longer torso, how did maternity pants fit you?

I want to get the full panel maternity pants, but I'm tall and have a longer torso.  I'm just wondering if you have problems with the panel coming up high enough on your belly?  In my head i'm comparing it to the feeling when you buy stockings or tights that don't go high enough on your stomach?  and they constantly roll down?  Do you know what I mean?
I'm 15 and a half weeks now, and don't need them yet, but it was just something on my mind.

  • I'm very short and even towards the end of my first pregnancy some of my pants weren't covering my whole belly. They didn't roll down for me.

  • well, so far I'm okay with mine.  Actually they seem to go a little high for me, but I can see how that makes sense as my belly gets bigger they won't be.  However, with my first pregnancy (4 years ago) I absolutely hated the full panels and would only buy pants that were under the belly style.  This time around, I'm showing so much sooner that either they make sense to me this time or the technology of the full panel has improved.  (the 'secret fit belly' panels on motherhood maternity and pea in the pod pants are pretty awesome).

  • I only have one pair from Motherhood Maternity as I'm still wearing my regular pants at nearly 22 weeks.  I think they're full panel.  I'm on the cusp though of going to the Bella Band.

I find that the maternity pants I have go really, really high right now.  As in, they go all the way up to my bra.  I have a very long torso too.  However, those suckers start low.  It's hard, even this early, to have a shirt that is long enough to cover the panel.  I didn't realize just how hard it would be this early to do that.  That's really going to be a major issue for me later in this pregnancy.  The panel starts an inch or two below my pubic bone, whereas I think it starts much higher on short people.

  • First of all, you can be VERY thankful that we're pregnant in the summer when length doesn't matter (for capris)!  I'm tall too, and have struggled to find pants that are LONG ENOUGH!  The full panel seems to fit okay on me and I have a long torso like you (and long legs and arms, etc. LOL).  The "tall" length in Motherhood jeans are BARELY long enough...wash them in cold and dry them on "knit" to prevent shrinkage :)

  • I am very tall (5'10") with a long torso and have had no problems with full panel pants as of yet. Since I have such a long torso, at 21 weeks I have a pretty small bump. So, thus far, I have had no issues with it being long enough. Panels fit snug right up to my ribs! I hope that helps. Best of luck :)

  • I'm 5'10" and the full panel maternity pants are very comfy on me! I have a fairly long torso and the tall jeans I bought from Motherhood Maternity come up plenty high enough on my belly!

You shouldn't dry some of the fabrics from MM.  Thankfully, the sales associate told me to not dry the capris I bought there as they'll shrink.  Just an FYI as you certainly don't want them any shorter!

  • My full panels were fine until a couple weeks ago.  Now they kind of cut me off.  But at this point, I dont really care.  They arent uncomfortable at all, you can just see the line through my shirts.  The only exception is my skinny jeans from JC Penny. They are still "tall" enough for my torso.  My Old Navy and Motherhood jeans/pants are all too short.

But again, like I said, I only have a few weeks left, I couldnt care less about how they look at this point.  As long as they still fit I am good.

  • I'm 5'9" with a long torso.  I'm no expert because this is my first pregnancy, but I splurged on one pair of 7 for all Mankind maternity jeans and they fit great- including the tummy panel. Like one of the other girls said, it is difficult to find shirts long enough to totally cover the panel. I havent bought any shirts yet, just shopping in my own closet.

Also, one nice thing about the long torso is, I'm still wearing some of my regular pants and shorts that are really low rise. They sit so low on my hips that they are reasonably comfortable still.
