First time mom questions

So I don't want to call the doctor yet because I'm not 100% concerned but I wanted to see if anyone can remember.

LO hasn't been moving nearly as much the last week or so. She still moves so I know things are ok but the decreased movement is odd. Could this be a growth spurt or do babies generally slow their movements? Do you remember a timeframe where movement decreased and then went crazy again?

I'm also feeling a lot of increased pressure between my legs over the past couple days. Just really sore and for no apparent reason. I don't know if these two would be related?

Any thoughts?

  • I always was cautious and would call no matter what any one gives you as advice... do what you are comfortable with. The docs are there for you to call if you have concerns.

  • When I was pregnant with DS he never moved a lot... he was just a chill little guy (compared to my friends who would talk about constant movement) and he also ended up being 9lb 9oz a week early so it was probably just that he had no room Stick out tongue

When I talked to my OB about it she said it's different for everyone (the amount of movement)... but it should be consistent. The bigger he got the less movement there was, but it seemed consistent. I would say if it's a really big change from before to call. It's always better to be cautious!

I completely agree with this advice.  Pregnancy is no time to "tough it out", and lack of movement isn't something to mess with.  I'd put in a call to put your mind at ease.

    This!

If you are concerned, call. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or what they would do. Trust me, plenty of us have ended up making frantic, panicked trips to L&D for monitoring to find out that baby is just fine. None of us was the first and none of us will be the last. Yes, baby's movement changes over the pregnancy but only you can know if it feels so different as to be alarming.

Call and don't worry about anyone else's opinion. :)

  • I remember my doc saying it was not as worrisome to have some decreased movement until 29 weeks. But you could always drink some OJ and lay on your left side to see if it wakes the little one up. Calling is never a bad idea even just to ease your mind.

Alex had a quiet few days around 28 weeks and I freaked out since he was always so active. After those few days he was back to Mr. Romper Room. I have a feeling he may have been flipping to head down at that point.

I'm wondering if this is it. Especially since I'm pretty sore as of recently for no apparent reason. She's still moving it's just not as much as a few weeks ago so I'm not terribly concerned. I had a cup of coffee and can feel her just fine. Perhaps she's just a little lazy and has been resting. I've also been really busy so just might not have noticed so much.

    Thanks ladies!

This was Cecelia (but she wasn't that big :)).  I would call just to be safe.  If I ever felt like I wasn't feeling her enough, I would lay on my left side for a bit and do a kick count.
