cord banking?

Does anyone know about the different cord banking places? I am so lost and since no one in my family did it they have no idea either. My husband wants to know why we should bank it and not donate it. I'm not exactly sure how to explain it to him, so I really need help with that as well. Anything anyone knows will be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: cord banking?

  • Save your money and donate it if you want to. Cord blood banks charge large fees to collect the blood and then a yearly storage fee. I know its nice to have "just in case" but you could get it from a donor if need be.

  • I wouldn't even bother with banking. Donate if you can (although there have been some posts on here about how that can be bad, so do your research). It's $$$ and they can't even guarantee that it will work. After talking to several docs, other parents and doing our own research, we realized it was not all it's cracked up to be and really just a way for companies to profit off of new parents.
