D.C. Area Babies

Please tell me this phase will end soon...

DD has become super-clingy to me over the last week. She resists being put down (even very pathetically saying "no" and shaking her head when she knows she's about to be put down). It's sort of sweet, but at the same time, sort of difficult! If I'm not the one to go in to her in the morning, she just ignores DH and calls for me. She had to stand in front of the shower this morning to make sure I didn't go anywhere. She practically stands on my feet to make sure I'm there when we're with people.

Please tell me this ends soon...

Re: Please tell me this phase will end soon...

  • DD has always had a strong preference for me, so I can't offer an end time, but I can tell you it really helped to let DD have special time with DH to develop their relationship more.  They go on dates every other weekend - nothing special, just the playground, or walks by the water, etc. without me or baby.  DH also plays more physically with DD which she loves.  DH also took over middle of the night comforting for DD when she wakes up.  Just in the last few weeks DD has been asking for her daddy more and gets so excited when he comes home.  She still has some preference for me, but it's not nearly as strong as it used to be.  Ditto on the feet standing thing - it really hurts when she is wearing her shoes and I am barefoot.

  • any chance you could be pregnant? :)

  • For us it comes and goes.  I think Maggie does it more now because Molly does it and vice versa.  I used to think Molly would never leave me alone but if I am home alone with her she never is on top of me until Maggie gets home.  If I have one on my lap there is a good chance I will have two really soon.  When it was just Maggie I tried to encourage walking on her own and hand holding for practice.  I try and remember that someday they will pretend they don't even know me in public but you just want a few minutes to cut/cook/clean something.

This exactly! I try to remind myself of this, but let me take a shower, for pete's sake!

Also, I'm not pregnant that I know of (unless there's some medical miracle at play), but I've read about clinginess when pregnant with #2. I'm just hoping this passes quickly. And fear for even more clinginess if/when I do have number two. Wink
