DD will be 3 at the end of May and just started sucking her thumb/fingers for the first time. She only does it when she is concentrating like when we read books or watch a movie but I would still like to break the habit now.
We are due with baby number 2 in about 2 weeks so I was wondering if it was stress related for her. However, given the baby hasnt actually come yet and we aren't overly obsessive about talking about the baby, I don't really think she is stressed yet.
Anyone else's DC do this?
Re: 3 yr old just started sucking thumb?
I just posted a few days ago about my soon-to-be 3-year-old sucking her fingers all the time. The consensus, both here and with other people I've talked to, was that it's a phase and to do your best to ignore it. That's what I'm trying right now. Sometimes if she starts it when I know her hands are dirty, I'll say, "Please take your fingers out of your mouth" or "Your fingers have germs. I don't want you to get sick," but I'm trying not to make it into a big deal. Good luck! I hope this phase ends quickly for both of us!

This.
When she's nervous K shoves all four fingers in her mouth. I don't mention it, discourage it or draw attention to it.
