what do you like to sing to (your) kids?

dd was sitting the bath this morning and wanted me to sing to her.  i'd run through most of our usual standards ("you are my sunshine,"  "i've been working on the railroad," "itsy bitsy spider," etc.), so i started singing "lift every voice and sing" to her.  she immediately started protesting.  when i switched to "i'm being swallowed by a boa constrictor" she told me "that's better."  Smile

so what do you like to sing to your kids or kids in general?  i'm looking to add a few new songs to my repertoire.

  • i sing church songs to my neices and in the car, when no one's around, i sing christmas carols to my belly.  my mom sang us "in the ghetto" when we were little as a lullaby which now that we're adults we all laugh at because its kind of wildly innappropriate for kids, but now it holds a special place in my heart so i'm sure that one will come up eventually.  now that i reread my post, i've decided i'm weird and should not be an example for other people, other than church songs... i stand by that one.

  • "You are my sunshine" is my favorite and makes my son smile, but I see that you already sing that one.  I also like "Elmo, You Can Drive My Car," a funny tune from one of the Elmo CDs we listen to all the time.
