Baby Names

WDYT of...

Declan Lee if it is a boy?

or

Katelyn Marie if it is a girl?

DH is David Lee R. and instead of a junior wants to pass down his initials and middle name.  We like this name and the meaning behind it. My middle name, given by my father, is one I share with my mom and gramma and would like to pass it to my daughter should I have one.

What do you think?

  • I like Declan. And I like Katelyn if spelled Caitlin. I don't know why!

The MNs feel like fillers to me except Lee has family significance to you.

  • Nice names. :) There's nothing really offensive about either one. I tend to not care for Katelyn - it feels so '80s to me. I do love Caitlin (the Irish spelling of the name) - it feels more fresh, vibrant and present-day than Katelyn. But if that doesn't bother you, Katelyn is fine.

  • Not a fan of Declan
  • I think I prefer the spelling of Caitlin as well, just not sure that DH does. Declan is Irish too, which is what DH's family is.  Maybe he would go for the other spelling of our girl name knowing that it is the Irish version.

  • I love Declan. I'd prefer Declan David, though.

Katelyn is nms. I prefer Caitlin.

  • Declan is NMS, but I love the meaning behind the names. Katelyn is nice, but I much prefer the spelling of Caitlin.
  • Love Declan for the boy. Like Katelyn for the girl.

  • Love the name Declan, that's on my list for future sons. My sisters name is Katelyn Marie, spelled the same way, so I of course think it's pretty.

  • I think Katelyn Marie is very beautiful...

I have not joined the Declan parade.

  • Both are absolutely fine. Although, I wouldn't use Declan, but this is just because I know someone with it as a last name. Good choices! :)
  • not a fan of either however I love Kate and Deacan

I also prefer the spelling Caitlin, but it reminds me of a little girl not a 40 year old woman

There's nothing truly objectionable about either name.  I don't personally like either Declan or Katelyn since they both strike me as super trendy and will likely have a dated feel to them over time, but they're respectable choices.  Like other PPs, I much prefer the Caitlin spelling as well.
