Natural Birth

Another NB Newbie

We are preparing for our first birth in June, and I am trying to learn everything I can about natural birth, so I hope you don't mind if I do some lurking and add the odd post around here.  The more I learn about epis, etc. the more certain I am I don't want one.  I wouldn't say I am 100% confident yet that I will follow through, but I still have some time to psych myself up.

After my first m/c, I really disliked the OB who performed my D&C (who could very well be the one on call during my labor), and my family Dr. really ticked me off after 2nd m/c.  Luckily, in our province MW are fully covered, and for this pregnancy I was lucky enough to get into one of the 3 practices in our area.  I will be having a hospital birth, but if all goes well, it will only really be attended by the MWs (and DH!)

Looking forward to learning lots from all of you!

  • What really helped seal the decision to go natural for me was reading Ina May Gaskin's book, The Guide to Childbirth. It's incredibly empowering; she reminds us that bringing babies into this world is what our bodies are designed for, and they know what they are doing. It's made me feel extremely confident about being in labor, and I was dead set on having an epi my first trimester!
